What’s New in Google Chrome 110.0?

Google Chrome 110.0 version was released to Early Stable channel on February 01, 2023 and Stable channel on February 07, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • No support for Windows 7/8/8.1 and Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 (More Info)
  • Dedicated Translation Settings Page: Chrome now comes with a new detailed translation settings page for controlling the current target language options. These settings were previously only available on the Translate UI bubble but now are permanently visible under chrome://settings/language. Enterprise admins can use the existing TranslateEnabled policy to globally enable or disable translation.
  • Biometrics Protection for Passwords: For improved security, Chrome users can opt into requiring biometrics to autofill their passwords every time.
  • Easier Password Updates When a Compromise is Detected: The Check passwords tool now has an expanded set of URLs pointing directly to a Change password form. This allows users to take action and fix compromised passwords. The Check passwords tool is only available if PasswordManagerEnabled is set to true or unset.
  • Cookie Information from Extensions: When you enable Enhanced Safe Browsing, Chrome now collects telemetry information about the cookie information extensions request. These activities are analyzed on Google servers and further improve the detection of malicious and policy violating extensions. This improvement allows better protection for all Chrome extension users.
  • Custom Web App Default Network Error Page: Chrome now provides a custom default network error page (when the network is down) for web apps that don’t define their own custom offline experience.

Google Chrome 111.0 version was released to Early Stable channel on March 01, 2023 and Stable channel on March 07, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Improvements to Privacy Sandbox Project UI: Chrome now shows a confirmation dialog box that tells about the new features and opens the appropriate settings pages to allow users to customize their preferences. Users can disable Chrome’s Privacy Sandbox settings via the PrivacySandboxAdTopicsEnabled, PrivacySandboxSiteEnabledAdsEnabled, and PrivacySandboxAdMeasurementEnabled policies, and suppress the user-facing prompt via the PrivacySandboxPromptEnabled policy.
  • New Chrome Sync UI: Some users might see an updated dialog box to turn on Chrome Sync feature. You can use BrowserSignin, SyncDisabled, RestrictSigninToPattern and SyncTypesListDisabled policies to configure Chrome sync functionality as usual.
  • Azure AD SSO (Single Sign-on): Chrome now supports automatic sign-on into Microsoft identity providers using account information from Microsoft Windows. This feature is disabled by default and can be enabled using the CloudAPAuthEnabled policy.

Google Chrome 112.0 version was released to Early Stable channel on March 29, 2023 and Stable channel on April 04, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • New Journeys option added to Side Panel (How-to Disable/Remove Guide)
  • Safety check tool now includes a new module for auto-revocation of unused site permissions. Chrome automatically resets permissions from websites that users have not visited for a while.
  • Chrome apps are no longer supported on Windows, Mac and Linux. Chrome apps have been phased out in favor of Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) and web-standard technologies. You can implement a policy ChromeAppsEnabled to extend the lifetime of Chrome apps for additional 2 milestones.
  • Updated First Run Experience: Some users may see a simplified onboarding experience with redesigned sign-in screen.

What’s New in Google Chrome 113.0?

Google Chrome 113.0 version was released to Early Stable channel on April 26, 2023 and Stable channel on May 02, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Changes to 3-dots Chrome Menu: Extensions and Chrome Web Store options moved to the 1st level of three-dots menu.
  • Journeys Card on New Tab Page (NTP): Chrome now shows Journeys resumption and next step suggestions cards on New Tab page. You can control the visibility of cards on the New tab page using the NTPCardsVisible policy.
  • Changes to Enhanced Safe Browsing: The Enhanced Safe Browsing mode now collects additional telemetry data for off-store extensions, such as file hashes and the manifest.json file. This extension telemetry feature can be turned off by setting SafeBrowsingProtectionLevel policy to 0 to disable safe browsing or 1 to enable safe browsing in standard mode.
  • Fast Checkout Experience: You may see updated Autofill options on checkout pages on some shopping websites. It can be disabled by disabling AutofillAddressEnabled or AutofillCreditCardEnabled policy.

What’s New in Google Chrome 114.0?

Google Chrome 114.0 version was released to Early Stable channel on May 24, 2023 and Stable channel on May 30, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Updated UI for Bookmarks side panel including features such as filtering, sorting, and editing. (How-to Enable/Disable Guide)
  • Password Manager Rebranded as Google Password Manager with improvements.
  • Lock Profile Cookie Files on Disk: To help protect Chrome users against malware attempting to steal cookie information, Chrome 114 on Windows holds an exclusive lock on the profile cookie files on disk. The command-line parameter --enable-features=LockProfileCookieDatabase can be used to enable/disable this feature.
  • Unpacking Nested Archives for Download Protection: Starting in Chrome 114, users with Safe Browsing set to Standard or Enhanced protection now begin recursively unpacking downloads of nested archives. This extends the long-standing protections Chrome offers against malware and unwanted software, and specifically combats techniques abused by distributors of cookie theft malware. The SafeBrowsingProtectionLevel policy allows you to enable or disable Safe Browsing, including this feature.
  • Support for Private State Tokens: Chrome now makes the Private State Tokens API available for use by websites to help them combat fraud and distinguish bots from real humans without the exchange of user identifying information. Availability of Private State Tokens is controlled using a new setting in Chrome settings called Auto-verify.
  • Side Panel API: Manifest V3 extensions can now add their own side panel pages to Chrome’s built-in side panel UI.
  • New strings in update chip in three-dots menu to encourage users to apply updates (and restart) quicker.

What’s New in Google Chrome 115.0?

Google Chrome 115.0 version was released to Early Stable channel on July 12, 2023 and Stable channel on July 18, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • New redesigned Extensions menu panel UI which is disabled by default (How-to Enable Guide)
  • New Reading Mode or Reader Mode in Side Panel to provide distraction-free reading experience (How-to Enable/Disable Guide)
  • Google Search Side Panel: You can show right-click search results page inside Chrome’s Side Panel without leaving the current webpage. You can control access to the Search side panel using the GoogleSearchSidePanelEnabled policy. (How-to Guide)
  • New “Allow This Time” option for geolocation, camera and microphone permissions prompts displayed by websites.
  • Users can use ExtensionUnpublishedAvailability policy to disable extensions that have been unpublished from Chrome Web Store.
  • Secure DNS auto-upgrade for some Quad9Secure (9.9.9.9) DNS users.
  • HTTP requests auto-upgrade to HTTPS to improve users’ security. You can control this behavior with the HttpsUpgradesEnabled policy, and allowlist specific sites with the HttpAllowlist policy.

What’s New in Google Chrome 116.0?

Google Chrome 116.0 version was released to Early Stable channel on August 09, 2023 and Stable channel on August 15, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Fast Release Cycle for Security Updates: Starting with Chrome 116, security updates and minor releases will be released every week to deliver security improvements even faster. Users can also sign up to receive email notifications whenever there’s a Chrome release that contains high or critical security fixes, including zero-day fixes.
  • Google Search Side Panel: This feature was first launched to some users in Chrome 115 and now it’ll be rolled out to all users in Chrome 116. This feature allows users to show right-click search results page inside Chrome’s Side Panel without leaving the current webpage. You can control access to the Search side panel using the GoogleSearchSidePanelEnabled policy.
  • Improvements to Memory Saver and Energy Saver modes.
  • Improvements to Back/forward cache. You can disable this feature via the BackForwardCacheEnabled policy.
  • Anti-phishing Telemetry: Chrome now logs user-interaction data to Chrome servers and to Safe Browsing servers to understand how users interact with Safe Browsing phishing warnings and phishing pages. This additional telemetry will help Google to improve phishing protection. Admins can opt out by using the Enterprise policies MetricsReportingEnabled and SafeBrowsingProtectionLevel.
  • Idle Timeout policies: In Chrome 116, admins can now apply an automatic action after Chrome has been idle for some amount of time. You can use the IdleTimeout policy to set a timeout period and the IdleTimeoutActions policy to specify actions on timeout.
  • OS-native Passkey Changes on Windows 11: Chrome 116 now utilizes the native version of cross-device passkeys feature of Windows 11 and stops offering its own cross-device UI.

What’s New in Google Chrome 117.0?

Google Chrome 117.0 version was released to Early Stable channel on September 06, 2023 and Stable channel on September 12, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Chrome no longer supports macOS 10.13 and macOS 10.14: If the user runs Chrome 117 or later on these unsupported operating systems, Chrome continues to show an infobar to remind the user about discontinued support.
  • New visual refresh UI: Based on Google Material 3 design, users will see updated theme or UI including redesigned elements, styling, enhanced personalization and improved accessibility. The main 3-dots Chrome menu will also be refreshed. (How-to Enable/Disable Guide)
  • New Tune icon in place of the Lock icon in address bar: The lock icon has been replaced with a variant of the tune icon, which is commonly used to indicate controls and settings. The lock icon will also be replaced on Android. On iOS, the lock icon is not tappable, so it’ll be removed soon.
  • New simplified onboarding experience: Users may see a simplified onboarding experience to sign into Chrome. You can use the PromotionalTabsEnabled policy to skip the onboarding altogether.
  • Chrome now warns on insecure downloads: Chrome will start showing warnings on files which were downloaded over an insecure (not HTTPS) connection. These warnings do not prevent downloading and can be bypassed by the user. You can test the experience via chrome://flags/#insecure-download-warnings. Users can also disable warnings for sites that can not deliver files securely by adding the downloading site to InsecureContentAllowedForUrls. (How-to Enable/Disable Guide)
  • New review panel on chrome://extensions page to notify the user about potentially unsafe extensions that need user’s attention, such as extensions that are malware, policy violating or are no longer available in Chrome Web Store. The user can choose to remove or keep these extensions. You can control the behavior using the ExtensionUnpublishedAvailability policy.
  • Revamped permission usage or blockage indicators: Chrome is changing the life cycle of the in-use activity indicators such as microphone, camera, geolocation, updating how long they appear in the address bar.
  • User surveys related to SafeBrowsing warnings: If a user accepts or bypasses a SafeBrowsing warning message, Chrome may display a small survey to get the feedback. You can control this with the SafeBrowsingSurveysEnabled policy.
  • Network service is sandboxed on Linux and ChromeOS to improve security. The NetworkServiceSandboxEnabled policy can be used to configure the behavior.
  • Price tracking: When user bookmarks a price-trackable product, price tracking will be enabled by default when available. User will be able to disable price tracking per item and can also disable the feature entirely with the ShoppingListEnabled policy. (How-to Disable Guide)
  • Price insights: Some users will see a chip in the address bar which enables them to see price information about a product they’re shopping for.

What’s New in Google Chrome 118.0?

Google Chrome 118.0 version was released to Early Stable channel on October 04, 2023 and Stable channel on October 10, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Product Discounts on New Tab Page: Chrome now shows discounts, shown as annotations on product page visits, in the Quests cards shown on New tab page. This feature can be controlled by NTPCardsVisible policy. Users can also sometimes see discounts directly on product page, available through an icon in the Omnibox.
  • When a user enables standard Safe Browsing protection and visits a URL, Chrome now performs safety check in real time by sending partial hashes of the visited URL to Google Safe Browsing through a proxy via Oblivious HTTP. User’s IP address is not linked to the partial hashes to maintain privacy for users. Users can control this feature using SafeBrowsingProxiedRealTimeChecksAllowed policy.
  • If a user has enabled Enhanced Safe Browsing, Chrome can now deep scan encrypted archives such as ZIP, RAR files and can prompt the user to provide the archive password along with the file content. Users will be able to disable the deep scan feature using SafeBrowsingDeepScanningEnabled policy starting from Chrome 119 version. (How-to Disable Guide)
  • If Enhanced Safe Browsing is enabled in Chrome and a user installs a malicious off-store extension, the extension can be disabled remotely and automatically by Safe Browsing servers.
  • UI updates to the Safe Browsing protection level on Security Settings page.
  • Minor UI updates to the red Safe Browsing interstitials.
  • New preference/flag for enabling chrome://policy/test page: A new #enable-policy-test-page flag added to chrome://flags page which can be enabled to use chrome://policy/test page to more easily test policies on the Beta, Dev, Canary channels.
  • Chrome on macOS 13.5 and later now supports creating and using passkeys from iCloud Keychain. The support for passkeys can be controlled using chrome://password-manager/settings page or using CreatePasskeysInICloudKeychain policy.
  • Removal of ForceMajorVersionToMinorPositionInUserAgent policy which was introduced in Chrome 99 version to control or freeze the User-Agent (UA) string’s major version at 99.
  • Removal of RendererCodeIntegrityEnabled policy which was used to control the Renderer Code Integrity security feature. The feature is now switched on by default.

What’s New in Google Chrome 119.0?

Google Chrome 119.0 version was released to Early Stable channel on October 25, 2023 and Stable channel on October 31, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Save and sync support added to Tab Groups: Users can now save tab groups and close/re-open them later. Users can also sync the tab groups across devices. You can disable the sync support for Tab Groups using SyncTypesListDisabled policy.
  • DevTools internal errors reporting: DevTools internal errors are now reported through Chrome’s existing crash reporting pipeline. Users can control the error reporting using MetricsReportingEnabled policy.
  • Dedicated option to enable or disable Permission Suggestions Service added to notification and geolocation permissions settings page
  • Removal of DownloadBubbleEnabled, ChromeCleanupEnabled and ChromeCleanupReportingEnabled policies.
