Fix: Video Playback Issue on Hulu Website in Mozilla Firefox

If you installed or upgraded to the latest version of Mozilla Firefox web browser (129.0 and later) and you are facing issues while watching videos on Hulu website, this article will help you in fixing the issue.

The recently released version 129.0 of Firefox web browser contains a serious bug which causes playback issues to Hulu users. Whenever a Firefox user tries to play a video on Hulu website, it fails to play.

The Hulu video player keeps loading the video endlessly or displays error messages. The bug is present in Firefox 129.0 and all later versions at the moment.

Mozilla team has officially acknowledged the issue on Firefox 129.0 changelog page. Here is the official information taken from Mozilla website regarding this annoying issue:

Under certain conditions, copyrighted video served via digital rights management may experience playback issues (bug 1911283).

A patch is underway. For an immediate workaround, please complete the following steps:

1. Go to about:config in the Awesomebar.

2. Search for media.eme.mfcdm.origin-filter.enabled.

3. Flip the pref from 1 to 0.

4. Select the check mark button.

The bug was reported 8 days back on official Bugzilla website. Many Firefox users have reported the same issue to Mozilla team and a new version is on the way containing a fix for this issue.

In the mean time, if you are also facing video playback issue on Hulu website in your Firefox web browser, you can get rid of the issue by modifying a preference/flag using about:config page in your web browser.

Following steps will help you in fixing Hulu video playing issue in Mozilla Firefox web browser:

STEP 1: Open Mozilla Firefox and type about:config in the address bar and press Enter. It’ll show you a warning message, click on “Accept the Risk and Continue” button. It’ll open Firefox’s hidden secret advanced configuration page i.e. about:config page.

STEP 2: Now type mfcdm in Search filter box and look for following preference in the window:

media.eme.mfcdm.origin-filter.enabled

STEP 3: To fix the video playback issue on Hulu website, double-click on the preference and change its value to 0. Alternatively, you can click on the Edit (pencil) icon given next to the preference name and change the value.

That’s it. It’ll immediately fix the video loading issue on Hulu website in Firefox web browser.

PS: In future, once the bug is fixed in future versions of Firefox web browser, you can reset the above mentioned preference/flag to 1 again.
