[Fix] “Something Went Wrong, Try Again” Error in Twitter’s New UI

Ever since Twitter released the new redesigned UI design to public, I’m facing a very annoying problem while using my Twitter account. I’m getting “Something went wrong” error message frequently while opening my profile page, checking notifications or reading tweets. A button “Try again” is also given below the error message but it never fixed the issue. The same “Something went wrong” error message is displayed again and again if I click on the button.

Following screenshots show this error message on various Twitter pages:

“Something Went Wrong” Error Message on Main Twitter Profile Page:

You can see in the last screenshot, the tweet page also shows a weird “You have been blocked from performing this action” warning message at the bottom which is scary.

I never received these error message on Twitter but since when my Twitter account was upgraded to the new interface design, I started getting those irritating error messages.

So how did I solve the issue?

I tried to reload/refresh the page many times but every time my browser (Mozilla Firefox) showed the same “Something went wrong” error message. Then I performed a hard refresh. I opened Twitter website and pressed Ctrl+F5 keys together to reload the webpage from scratch without using the browser cache.

It fixed the issue temporarily. Twitter website opened without any error message but as soon as I tried to open other pages such as notifications, Twitter again showed the same “Something went wrong” error message.

Then I tried to clear cache and cookies of twitter.com. I clicked on website information icon present before the website URL shown in Firefox address bar and clicked on “Clear Cookies and Site Data” option given at the bottom of the fly-out.

It opened “Removing Cookies and Site Data” dialog box containing all existing URLs of twitter.com. I clicked on “Remove” button to clear the twitter.com site data from Firefox web browser.

It logged me out from Twitter website but it fixed the issue. Now Twitter website started working fine in my web browser and I didn’t receive “Something went wrong” error message on any page.

So if you also face this problem in any web browser, first try to hard refresh the page using Ctrl+F5 hotkey. If it doesn’t solve the issue, then try to clear cache and cookies in your web browser. Remember clearing cookies will automatically sign you out from the website.

It’s still not clear why did this weird problem occur? Was it a bug/issue present in new UI of Twitter website? May be some new cookies introduced in new UI caused this problem?

  1. Thanks for the tips. I already tried Ctrl+F5 multiple times as well as clearing the Cache and Cookies, multiple reboots of Windows 10 and nothing seems to fix the problem.
I even tried Chrome instead of Firefox (I never use Twitter on Chrome and rarely use Chrome on this pc) and the same problem.
My laptop is fine. That switched over to the new Twitter more than a week before this pc. I wonder if the timing had something to do with it.

  2. The “something wrong” with Twitter is that the place exists at all, at least for anyone over the age of 10. That the President of the United States uses this inane and infantile venue to announce his official policies is beyond belief, that we have come down this far.

  3. Clearing cache/cookies is also only a temporary fix. The bug returns.

Come on Twitter, pull your thumb out.

  4. Thank you. I was clearing cookies and cache using Firefox settings page, but the route that you showed – using the dropdown menu on the address bar – worked fine.

  5. Ahh, scratch that.
Closed the Twitter tab and reopened it for a 3rd time, and the “Something went wrong. Try again.” error has returned.

  6. I am having a time with Twitter, in that I have created Twitter accounts in the past that I never used, but now I need to send a tweet to get some technical help with another online entity, and no matter what I do, Twitter always opens a different account, and there appears to be no way to possibly reach them for instructions / support. the ONLY way I can find to try and ask a question to Twitter is to submit a Ticket, but the Ticket system is broken, and the Submit button is greyed out / cannot be pressed. If you make the mistake of trying to call them, the robot that answers tells you they do not provide support over the phone and to try the Help Center, which is bugged.
Twitter, like most large worldwide organizations, has no means of getting technical help with anything, and their so called ‘Help Center’, has very limited options to get assistance, and the ones it does have only open a page with an FAQ on it. FAQs only work if everything is working as intended, but if not they are pointless.
I think Twitter has gotten too big for its own good, much like Microsoft / Apple / Blizzard Entertainment etc…. and now they have set themselves up as untouchables / unreachables. I am honestly shocked they have not hired out a call center to take customer concerns, but I guess they just don’t care anymore!!

  7. Twitter introduced this “error” specifically to keep people from seeing Trump’s tweets. It is simple to see their biases

  8. I get this error message constantly. I run CCleaner and it works briefly, but then once again I get the error message. Any guidance would be welcome.

  9. I’m trying to open a Twitter account, but just get the Oops, something went wrong, try again later message. Likewise when I try to click through to a twitter page from, e.g. a news feed.

  10. I can only get ERROR when I try to read tweets. Says Something went wrong – not your fault – lets try again. But it doesn’t work. Would be grateful for any advice??

  11. I can’t log in to my twitter account it loads for a very long time and my wifi has very high speed. What should i do

  12. I have the problem that whenever I try to read a twitter comment, I get the message that there has been an ERROR, but it’s not my fault, try again. I try again, but it’s useless.

I really would like to start using twitter!

  13. I have tried login on twitter it says oops something went wrong. I cleared all caches and cleared data on the twitter app.when i try again to enter my username and password immediately when i press login it still showing very same message “oops something went wrong try again later” can someone please assist me on how to fix this problem.
