[Fix] Something Went Wrong, OOBEKEYBOARD, OOBELOCAL, OOBEREGION Errors in Windows 10 and Windows 11 Installations

This article will help you in fixing “Something went wrong. You can try again or skip for now. OOBEKEYBOARD, OOBELOCAL, OOBEREGION” error messages while trying to install Windows 10 or Windows 11 operating systems in your computer or virtual machine.

Recently while trying to install Windows 11 in virtual box, I received following error messages with a melt ice cream image or logo at the time of OOBE (Out-of Box Experience or setup wizard):

First error message appeared after selecting the country or region.

But you can try again.

OOBELOCAL

I have received similar error messages in past as well while trying to install Windows 10 operating system in my machines. So these error messages are not new.

If you also face these error messages or problems while installing Windows 10 or Windows 11 in your devices, do as following to fix the issue:

SOLUTION 1:

First of all keep clicking on “Try again” button. I have noticed that when we click on “Try again” button for first time, it again displays the same “Something went wrong” message but if we keep clicking on “Try again” button 4-5 times, the setup wizard stops displaying the error message and moves to the next step. It might be a bug or known issue in the setup wizard.

SOLUTION 2:

If clicking on “Try again” button doesn’t help, click on “Skip” button and it’ll solve the issue and the setup wizard will move to the next step.

SOLUTION 3:

If you are connected to Internet, turn off Internet connection and then click on “Try again” button. Now Windows 10 or Windows 11 setup installer will be unable to connect to Internet and will skip the step. It’ll force the setup wizard to finish the setup and move to the next step.

SOLUTION 4:

If nothing works, restart your machine by pressing the power button for a few seconds. After reboot the problem will be resolved. Now setup wizard will no longer display any error message and Windows 10 or Windows 11 will install successfully in your computer system.

  1. Got this while trying to install the latest W10 build in hyper-v. Solution 3 got me past this error. Thanks.

  2. I have had this problem with a Windows 10 kit I downloaded to a flashdrive, and finally got OOBE to work by leaving the Cortana voice assistant “On” for the session. I could never get OOBE to work with it off.
