[Fix] Some Websites Fail to Load in Mozilla Firefox After Update

If you use Mozilla Firefox web browser in your computer and suddenly some websites failed to load after updating to new version of Firefox, this tutorial will help you in fixing the issue.

Many Firefox users are complaining this issue. Once they installed the latest version of Firefox browser, some of their favorite websites stopped loading in Firefox. Sometimes the websites load partially i.e. users can see some elements loading on the web page and sometimes websites fail to load completely with a blank page or error page.

The websites which are having issues with new Firefox version, include popular sites such as Facebook and YouTube as well. These websites were working fine in previous versions of Firefox but as soon as users upgraded to newer version of Firefox, the problem started and many websites stopped loading properly.

Many users have claimed that they tried various solutions such as restarting Firefox, restarting computer, clearing cache and cookies, resetting Firefox to factory settings and using custom DNS settings but nothing worked and the websites won’t load in Firefox.

Actually it’s a known issue in Firefox newer version and Mozilla has acknowledged it. The issue started occurring due to implementation of next generation of local storage system. Mozilla activated and enabled new local storage system version which caused websites rendering issue in Firefox newer versions.

The issue occurs when some websites try to load pages or some elements on pages using dynamic javascript which results in partial loading of the web page or complete failed loading of the page.

Fortunately Mozilla provided a preference/flag to disable the new version of local storage system and revert back to old version.

Users who are facing websites loading issues in Firefox, can turn off the preference to disable new local storage system and restore old local storage version which should fix the issue and the websites should open properly without any problem.

If you are also facing issues with some websites only in Firefox browser and the websites are opening fine in other web browsers, you can try following steps to resolve this issue:

1. Open Mozilla Firefox and type about:config in the addressbar and press Enter. It’ll show you a warning message, click on “I accept the risk!” button. It’ll open Firefox’s hidden secret advanced configuration page i.e. about:config page.

2. Now type next_gen in Search filter box and look for following preference in the window:

dom.storage.next_gen

The preference value is set to true by default, which means the new version of local storage is enabled in Firefox.

3. Double-click on dom.storage.next_gen preference and set it to false. Alternatively, you can right-click on the preference and select Toggle option.

That’s it. Now try to open the problematic website again and now it should load without any problem.

PS: If you decide to restore new version of local storage system in future, set the value of above mentioned preference to true.

  1. I followed all the steps and it did NOT work, but I was not given any alternative “fixes”

  2. AskVG, Many thanks!
I had an error 404 in my banking application. Once in the past, login had failed, I tried suggestions, and it worked. This time, nothing even going deep worked. Your instructions to revert to previous non-local Firefox update did it.
    So appreciated!
