[Fix] Printers Unable to Print, No Printout Coming in Windows 10

PROBLEM SYMPTOM:

In Windows 10, as soon as the user tries to print a document or other files, the printer is unable to print. No output comes from the printer. The Print Spooler service may generate and display error messages or error codes and may close unexpectedly. You may also encounter issues with the programs and apps you were attempting to print from such as crashing, throwing error messages and closing unexpectedly.

If you check for the installed printer using Settings app, the printer is properly listed under Printers & scanners section.

Apart from the real printer (hardware), users may also face issues with the software-based (virtual) printers such as Print to PDF feature. It may also not work and can crash or hang the program (not responding).

So basically the user is unable to print anything using the hardware or software-based printer in Windows 10 computer. The printer fails to print, throws error messages and closes the programs and apps.

UPDATE: The issue is also present in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019 operating systems.

PROBLEM REASON:

If you are encountering this issue with your printer, it might be happening due to recently installed updates KB4560960 and KB4557957. These updates were released for Windows 10 devices to improve reliability, security and to fix some known issues.

But these updates caused above mentioned printing issues to many Windows 10 users. Users were unable to print files using their printers after Windows 10 installed these updates in their devices.

PROBLEM SOLUTION:

The good news is that Microsoft acknowledged the printing issue and released a new patch or update for Windows 10 which fixes the issue. The new out-of-band update resolves the printing issues in all Windows 10 computers.

But the update will NOT be downloaded and installed via Windows Update automatically. Affected users will need to manually download and install the update in their computers.

  1. The links provided give “information,” but can’t find anywhere to download the actual file itself?

  2. @frank: Each one of those information pages include a chapter: “How to get this update”. See the “Release Channel” table and from there the link on the “Microsoft Update Catalog” row. (texts may vary by language)

That will lead to the Update Catalog page. But it’s not very user friendly: It lists update versions for every possible x64/x32/ARM64/Server system depending of your Windows version choice.

You need to know your Windows version (1909/1903/…) and the type of your system (x64 for most users). Load it and run it. No danger with wrong update patches as they won’t install at all.
