[Fix] Favorite Language Resets to English on HD Channels in Tata Play DTH

Tata Play (formerly known as Tata Sky) is a popular DTH (Direct To Home) service provider company in India. It provides lots of types of Set Top Boxes (STB) to its customers. In this article, we are going to address a very irritating and annoying issue present in all STBs provided by Tata Sky. This issue was present since many years in Tata Sky STBs and finally there is a way to fix the issue.

Following is the description of the issue:

Suppose you have set Hindi or any other regional language as favorite in your Set Top Box. Now all channels should respect your language selection. If a channel provides multiple audio/language feeds such as Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, etc, it should automatically select your favorite language which is Hindi in our case.

But many HD channels which provided multiple languages (specially Infotainment HD channels such as Nat Geo, Discovery, Animal Planet, History TV18, Sony BBC Earth, etc) were not respecting user’s favorite language selection. Although the user selected Hindi or other language as favorite, whenever he switched to these HD channels, the language automatically reset to English. To watch the program in favorite language, the user needed to change the language again using Blue button on the remote.

So the problem was HD channels were not respecting user’s favorite language selection and always resetting language to English.

The problem was occurring due to DD/DD+ (Dolby Digital) audio available on these channels. On these HD channels, English language was having DD/DD+ audio, that’s why the Set Top Box was automatically resetting language to English. HD channels were giving the preference to the DD/DD+ audio availability rather than the favorite language selected by the user.

We posted a detailed article addressing this issue two years back. You can find the article at following link:

The software adds a new option to STB Settings which can be activated and enabled to fix the issue.

You need to follow a few simple steps given below to fix this favorite language automatically resetting to English issue in your Tata Sky STB:

1. Press Settings (or Organiser button in old remotes) button on Tata Sky remote and then select “User Settings” option.

2. Now scroll down a little and select “Language Settings” option.

3. It’ll open language settings screen where you can change on screen (interface) language and favorite audio language.

You’ll see a new option added as following:

  • Favourite Audio Language Preferred over Dolby

Change the option to YES and press Blue button on remote to save settings.

That’s it. Now switch to any HD channels and it’ll obey your favorite language selection and will keep your selected language enabled. It’ll not reset to English language any more.

PS: If you can’t see the above mentioned option in Language Settings screen, wait for some days until the new software is installed in your STB and then you’ll be able to use the option.
