[Fix] Blank or Partial Printed Papers Coming out from Printer in Windows 10

If your printer is printing blank or partially printed documents in Windows 10, this article will help you in fixing the issue.

Recently a few readers reported a weird and very annoying issue to me. They all were facing similar issues in Windows 10 computers. Whenever the users were trying to print a document, image or other files, their printer was printing either a blank/empty paper or partially printed paper.

Some readers were facing crashing issues such as receiving BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) while trying to print using their printers.

PROBLEM SYMPTOM:

Following are a few comments posted by our readers who are facing printer related issues in Windows 10 devices:

Elaine Verhaag posted:

As of 16/03/21 the Print Pictures Wizard is not working on any Windows 10 version PC in my group. The dialogue behaves as normal but when the file is received at the printer it comes out blank or partially printed. This happens on all printers. The MS Photo viewer print dialogue DOES work however. We have just installed Windows updates KB4589211, KB4601556, KB4577586. Is there a known issue and how can I fix it?

Dylan Raymond posted:

Been having the same issues as Elaine and it has also begun around the same time period. All 5 of our PCs have the same issue. MS Photo viewer print dialogue works with no errors but around 60-70% of the print is blank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same as Elaine and Dylan. Part of the pictures doesn’t print when going through the Print Pictures wizard. But it prints fine when using the print option in the Photo viewer.
I need the print pictures wizard to function, as that’s what we use at work to be able to print several images on one page.

Septian Gustav posted:

I have same issue with dylan and elaine, I’ve trying reset the setting and restore default printer setting but still same result, received file still partially printed or blank on the middle.

IT’S KNOWN ISSUE:

Yes. It’s a known issue which has been acknowledged by Microsoft and the company has already released a hotfix/update to resolve the issue.

Here is what Microsoft says about the issue:

After installing updates released March 9, 2021 or March 15, 2021, you might get unexpected results when printing from some apps.

Issues might include:

  • Elements of the document might print as solid black/color boxes or might be missing, including barcodes, QR codes, and graphics elements, such as logos.
  • Table lines might be missing. Other alignment or formatting issues might also be present.
  • Printing from some apps or to some printers might result in a blank page or label.
  • You might receive an APC_INDEX_MISMATCH error with a blue screen when attempting to print to certain printers in some apps. This issue affects a subset of Type 3 printer drivers and does not affect printer drivers that are Type 4.

Affected systems:

  • Windows 10 version 20H2, version 2004, version 1909, version 1809, version 1803, version 1607
  • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019, LTSC 2016, 2015 LTSB
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 7 SP1
  • Windows Server version 20H2, version 2004, version 1909, version 1809, version 1803
  • Windows Server 2019, 2016, 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2 SP1, 2008 SP2

PROBLEM SOLUTION:

If you are also facing similar issue in your Windows 10 computer system, you need to download and install KB5001649 update which fixes all these known issues.

Automatic Download:

To install the update, open Settings app in your Windows 10 device and go to “Update & Security -> Windows Update” page. Alternatively, You can directly launch this page using “ms-settings:windowsupdate” command in RUN dialog box as mentioned here.

Under “Optional quality update available” area, you’ll get the link to download and install this update. If you don’t see any link, click on “Check for Updates” button and the link will appear as shown in following screenshot:

  2. Same for me still after update. It’s missing the middle part of all pictures that I’ve tried to print with Windows print pictures feature. I am able to print all other documents just fine, but if I use print pictures, only very top and very bottom of each picture is printed. It’s visible also in Epson ET-3700 preview, so I don’t even need to print it.

  3. Thank you very much for your time and clear explanations. But also same for me after update : still missing the middle part of all pictures that I’ve tried to print with Windows print pictures feature… 🙁

  4. Same for me still after update. It’s missing the middle part of all pictures that I’ve tried to print with Windows print pictures feature. I am able to print all other documents just fine, but if I use print pictures, only very top and very bottom of each picture is printed.

  5. Win 10 v 10.0.19041 and I have same problem (blank stripe down middle of JPGs) when printing from Windows Photo Viewer or directly from Windows Explorer. Photos print correctly from Adobe Photoshop 15, and Windows Photos. I have NOT downloaded the recommended update because the updatedirectory doesn’t make clear which one I need.

  6. rollback recent windows updates then print sure the print will fine………i tried and solved my problem

  7. It is not clear to me shall I installed KB5000802 or KB5001649 to solve the blank printing Issue. Please advise

  8. The problem comes for the update KB5000802, Solution is to install KB85001649 or Uninstall the Update KB5000802. Both work at my end.

  9. Wow, thanks for this information. I have been working past 7 hours to determine why my photos were coming up BLANK GAP in the middle. Now I see that there are many with the same problem. So, it cannot be a user installed bug. It came from a recent update. Now, I can hold on — until there is a fix. I was going c.zy. Maybe needing a complete Windows 10 re-boot from scratch. Oh, my god, NO. Answer is to sit tight.

Thank you so much for this thread, and so many responses. I am not alone in this.

  10. Can anyone give a hint how to fix this on a Windows 7 PC? my work PC is Windows 7 and my IT support team has no idea how to fix this.
KB5000802 doesn’t show among the installed updates and when I follow the link to KB5001649.
There are dozens of recently installed updates associated with specific applications but the only recent windows updates listed are KB2504637, KB5000800 and KB5000841

  11. Note that for Windows 7 machines the relevant update is KB5001639. I just confirmed this fixed the issue on my laptop running 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.

  12. Thank you so much for this posting. Helped me solve an issue for a user. The new update that replaces KB5001649 is KB5004476. Hope that helps.
