[Firefox Tip] Remove Lockwise and Monitor Sections from About:Protections Page

The newer versions of Mozilla Firefox web browser come with improved tracking protection page which can be accessed by clicking on “Privacy Protections” option present in main Firefox hamburger menu or by using about:protections URL in address bar. It shows statistics and log records of all blocked trackers over past week.

Firefox browser’s new versions also come with integration of its 2 exclusive tools which are Firefox Lockwise and Firefox Monitor which help users in managing their user IDs, passwords and let users know about compromised passwords and breach alerts.

When you open Privacy Protections (about:protections) page in Firefox, you get following sections:

  • Enhanced Tracking Protection
  • Look out for data breaches
  • Firefox Lockwise

  • “Enhanced Tracking Protection” section shows data and details about all trackers and other malicious scripts blocked by Firefox.
  • “Look out for data breaches” section is used to show information about Firefox Monitor tool.
  • “Firefox Lockwise” section contains details of Firefox’s own password management tool Firefox Lockwise.

If you don’t use Firefox Monitor and Firefox Lockwise tools, their related sections or cards on Privacy Protections (about:protections) page might become useless for you and you may want to remove them from the page. I also noticed that these 2 sections specially Firefox Monitor take time in loading and displaying the details.

Firefox comes with built-in preferences/flags to disable or remove Firefox Monitor and Firefox Lockwise tools sections from Privacy Protections (about:protections) page. You can modify these preferences to get rid of these unnecessary sections from about:protections page.

Following steps will help you in removing Firefox Monitor and Firefox Lockwise sections from Privacy Protections (about:protections) page in Mozilla Firefox:

1. Open Mozilla Firefox and type about:config in the addressbar and press Enter. It’ll show you a warning message, click on “I accept the risk!” button. It’ll open Firefox’s hidden secret advanced configuration page i.e. about:config page.

2. Now type contentblocking.report in Search filter box and look for following preferences in the window:

browser.contentblocking.report.lockwise.enabled

browser.contentblocking.report.monitor.enabled

Both the preferences values are set to true by default, which means both sections i.e. Firefox Lockwise and Firefox Monitor are enabled and displaying on Privacy Protections (about:protections) page.

3. To remove both sections, double-click on both preferences browser.contentblocking.report.lockwise.enabled and browser.contentblocking.report.monitor.enabled one by one and set their values to false. Alternatively, you can right-click on the preference and select Toggle option.

That’s it. Now open Privacy Protections (about:protections) page again and Firefox will no longer show Lockwise and Monitor sections on the page.

PS: If you decide to restore Lockwise and Monitor sections in future, set the value of above mentioned preferences to true.

  1. How do I remove, disable, etc Firefox Lockwise from Windows 10 Firefox 70*?

My circumstances are such that the setup I’ve defined over the years is sufficient e.g. elderly, one computer, password manager, only one user, more than 20 years computer experience as programmer and administrator.

  2. I have Dashlane as my PW manager and would like to delete Firefox Lockwise completely .
    How can I do that?

    Thank You for your help.
