Download Windows 8 RTM Metro Theme for Mozilla Firefox
We all know that Microsoft’s latest OS Windows 8 comes with a new Metro theme. Its minimal and doesn’t provide Aero Glass transparency.
We have shared a Windows 8 theme for Windows 7 and Windows XP in past which can be downloaded using following links:
Today in this topic, we are going to share a cool theme for Mozilla Firefox users. This theme will provide Windows 8 style Metro feeling in your web browser. This theme is actually a combination of a few extensions, some css code and customized preferences.

This Windows 8 theme will also provide Ribbon style interface in Firefox. It’ll replace the default orange Firefox button with Windows 8 style File menu of Ribbon.
NOTE: This theme works fine in all Firefox versions. It’ll work in all Windows versions. It should also work in Linux and Mac.
Following is a preview of the output which you are going to have after applying this Windows 8 skin in Mozilla Firefox:
So without wasting time lets share the theme:
1. This Windows 8 RTM theme has been created by “luxorus” @ DA. First download the theme using following link:

2. After downloading, extract the RAR file using 7-Zip or WinRAR. You’ll get 3 folders: EN, FR and CZ.
Actually these 3 folders contain same theme but for different language versions: English, French and Czech. English language users will need to use EN folder.
3. Open EN folder and copy all files and folders inside it.
4. Now you’ll need to open Firefox profile folder. If you are not aware of profile folder, check out following article:
All About Mozilla Firefox Profile Folder and Configuration Files
5. Once you open Firefox profile folder, paste the copied content. One file prefs.js will already exist in profile folder. This file saves your customized settings. It would be better to create a backup of this file first before replacing it so that you can restore the default file if you don’t like the new interface.
6. Now launch Firefox and it’ll show a confirmation to install Smart text and Stylish extensions. Enable the checkbox “Allow this installation” and click on “Continue” button. Do this for both extensions and at last restart Firefox.
7. That’s it. Ready to get Windows 8 style look-n-feel in Mozilla Firefox web browser.
PS: If you want to uninstall this theme and want to restore default look in future, simply restore default prefs.js file in profile folder, delete stylish.sqlite file from profile folder and delete “smart@text-a.am.xpi” and “{46551EC9-40F0-4e47-8E18-8E5CF550CFB8}.xpi” files from “extensions” folder present in Firefox profile folder.
Wow….
But sadly, this is for Windows 8 isn’t it…
^^ No. Its not OS specific. It’ll work in all OS.
Nice but very buggy… menu drop-down button overlaps navigation buttons when maximized…
any add on or userscript to get only e minimalist scrool bar?
^^ If you dont want other things, you can only copy extensions folder and the stylish.sqlite file. Dont copy prefs.js file.
@techhahn
It didnt happen here. Try to reset toolbar buttons to defaults.
Yeah, I don’t like that it adds useless extra space (titlebar). Also, it looks kind of weird on XP. Will need to do some tweakin’.
It didnt happen here.can u creat an automated installer for this as it is very complicated.
So I tweaked it a bit and this is what I came up with:
dl.dropbox.com/u/16524772/MetroGUI.jpg
Anyway, is it possible to change these Minimize, Close buttons? I can’t seem to do that on Windows 7. :/
^^ I think the titlebar buttons are defined by the current Windows theme.
@lordrt
If you use the theme in Windows Vista or 7, you’ll get Aero glass transparency.
@Mahankali Vidya Sagar
You just need to copy the files to profile folder, nothing else. 🙂
For a fact I know that it is possible on XP… I guess they disabled that ability.
^^ If it can be done on XP, then I think it should also be possible in Windows Vista, 7 and 8.
On Windows 8 Nigthly 19 Cannot fix tab text it’s cut on like half I cannot find anything on the Style to move a little up that text .. The rest perfect nice theme!
when will visplore will come to update….
^^ No idea. May be never. If it gets any update, following topic will be updated:

The installation routine is horrible.
Only works if you have a clean installation, otherwise it will replace your already installed extensions and all your styles among many other things.
The use should backup the WHOLE profile folder to revert this crappy theme which doesn’t even look or feel right.

Try MZ8. All you have to do is install it. Link addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/mz8/
@Tony
You are right. MZ8 and Psoutro light are great themes and this theme is a basket full of bugs.
In xp and 7 this theme doesn’t show close, minimize and maximize buttons.
