Download Windows 8.1 Preview Boot Screen for Windows XP and Windows 7

Most of us know that Microsoft loves using “Betta fish” images in testing versions of Windows OS. They have used Betta fish image in Windows 7 Beta build wallpaper and boot screen of Windows 8 Consumer Preview version.

Now its turn of the latest Windows 8.1 Preview version. Similar to previous Windows versions, Windows 8.1 Preview also comes with a new Boot Screen which also features Microsoft’s favorite “Betta fish“. Its quite similar to Windows 8 boot screen because it shows same circle animation but the main Windows 8 logo has been replaced by Betta fish. Microsoft will change this Betta fish boot screen in final version of Windows 8.1.

    @Youssef
    As far as I know, you can’t change boot screen in Windows 8 (Vishal will correct me if I’m wrong).

  5. I’m experiencing an error when using windows 7 boot updater, this ss from win 7 boot updater on my pc 🙁
    1.bp.blogspot.com/-0rg7wlq7Spg/Uc4wumzyMyI/AAAAAAAAC8E/w-hWKetDLVw/s400/b.jpg
    please help me VJ

  6. ^^ It has nothing to do with boot screen. Sometimes Windows 7 Boot Updater shows these kinds of errors in Windows 7. I have no idea about this error message. Are you using a dual-boot system?

    @zydrius32
    Yes. Windows 8 boot screen image can’t be changed yet.

    @Asrin475
    Thanks.

    @Shilajit
    Simply grab the logo from the above image and create a new image in Photoshop or any other software and make its background black and then paste the fish logo in the middle of the image. Save the image and set as wallpaper. 😉

  7. ^^ No idea. I have seen it happening many times. When people dual-boot between Windows 7 and Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, this error message occurs.

  8. Hi VG!
    I could not find the download link on the landing page. I also looked in the right side but I could not find the link. Plzz help! Thanks in advance.

  9. ^^ It should be present in right-side section below the thumbnails. You’ll need to scroll down a little.

  10. The rtm version of windows 8.1 has the same boot screen as windows 8.1 and not the fish boot screen as shown above.

  11. Its good, but it nearly shook me as suddenly the first time i started it it said “image is corrupt. cannot boot “. then i restarted it many times at last it started but then i changed it to normal.
    i appreciate your work. but it can be dangerous!

  12. I want your help. I use windows 7 and I read how to change the account picture on login screen with that of windows 8 user picture and I somehow changed it and I don’t remember how I did it and I am unable to restore it. I applied some skin packs too but the account picture is showing that of windows 8 and if I change it from control panel > user accounts> change account picture, it is displaying on start but not on login screen. Please help.

  13. I did as instructed but I cannot see the the windows 8.1 Betta fish on the boot screen. I only see the loading picture which is shown below the fish. Why is this so? What should I do?

  14. ^^ The software to change Windows 7 boot screen contains an option to restore default boot screen. Check its menu options.

  15. VG, is the Win7 boot screen updater safe? Yesterday, I had to clean install W7 because a virus/malware disabled most apps and control panel settings.

  16. ^^ Windows 7 boot updater is a genuine and safe program. But sometimes it causes boot problems to some Windows 7 users.

  17. ^^ When I used to apply custom boot screen using this software in Windows 7, I never faced any problem but I have received a few complaints from readers that they faced boot problems after using this tool. So I cant assure you anything about this tool as I have left using Windows 7 since long time.

  18. Just one more thing. I remember that sometimes, during a Windows Update, the boot screen displays a message like “Applying Update Operation X of XX: XXXXXX” under the animation.
    Will this work with a custom boot screen?
    Mine is the exact same as the default Win7 boot screen, but with richer animation colors.
