Download New Microsoft Teams App for Windows and Mac

Microsoft has released a free public preview version of its new Microsoft Teams app which can be installed to test drive the new UI and features introduced in Teams app.

Microsoft Teams app is used by many users specially for chat and meeting purposes and to share files and apps. People use MS Teams in office, home, school and many other places to communicate with others.

Based on users feedback and suggestions, Microsoft has developed a new version of Microsoft Teams app which is available for download and installation to public.

How to Get the New Microsoft Teams Preview Version

Microsoft is rolling out the free public preview version of Teams app to all existing Teams users and interested users can switch to the new redesigned version of Teams app using a single toggle button.

Existing Teams (Free or classic) users will see a toggle button “Try the new Teams” to switch to new Teams version in the title bar of Teams app as shown in following screenshot:

If you are using classic Teams app, you can click on the toggle option to upgrade to the new Teams app.

How to Switch Back or Restore to Classic Microsoft Teams App

After switching to new UI, if you don’t like it and decide to rollback to classic Teams version, you can again click on the toggle option “New Teams” present in the title bar and it’ll restore the old UI. You may need to restart the app to apply new and old versions.

New Features in Microsoft Teams Preview Version

The new Microsoft Teams app comes with many new features which as as following:

• Faster: Launches up to 2x faster and enables you to join meetings up to 2x faster.
• High Performance: Optimized for more efficient use of system resources, using up to 50% less memory.
• Clean UI: Simple, responsive and easy to use user interface.
• Adds support for collaboration across organizations, multiple work or school accounts. You can be signed into multiple organizations and accounts simultaneously and receive notifications for all your accounts.
• Simplified IT management
• Enhanced data security
• Activity feed, chat, calls, meetings, teams and channels, file manager, apps.

Please note that the preview release of Teams app only includes some of the features available in classic Teams version. Some features such as 3rd party apps, Line of Business (LOB) apps, advanced calling features and advanced meeting capabilities, including breakout rooms, have yet to be released.
