After announcing the public release of Windows 7 RC build, Microsoft has released the much awaited "Windows XP Mode" to public.
If you don't know about "Windows XP Mode", here is what "Windows 7 Team Blog" says:
Windows XP Mode is specifically designed to help small businesses move to Windows 7. Windows XP Mode provides you with the flexibility to run many older productivity applications on a Windows 7 based PC.
All you need to do is to install suitable applications directly in Windows XP Mode which is a virtual Windows XP environment running under Windows Virtual PC. The applications will be published to the Windows 7 desktop and then you can run them directly from Windows 7.

is it possible to create a partition using partition magic
without taking the risk of losing data on my drive.
i am planning on cutting my logical drive into 2 for installing windows se7en.
what size can u suggest for the installation of windows se7en?
i have partitioned my xp 30GB and 120GB for data files.
thx~ im just making sure that i wouldnt mess up my data. ^^
can i run xp apps w/o using the xp mode in windows se7en?
bcoz i only have 2GB RAM and i wish to use 64-bit windows se7en.
is it possible?
thx.
VG
^^ Yes. You can use Partition Magic to easily shrink the existing partition and create a new partition. You'll not loose any data. But make sure you have proper power supply during the operation.
You can create 30 or 40 GB partition for Windows 7.

what do u mean by proper power supply'
do u mean if i am using a laptop i need to make sure it won't
run out of batteries.

VG
^^ Yes. What I mean is there should be no power cut during partition resizing otherwise it'll make the partition corrupt and you'll loose the data.

My CPU doesn't support Intel Virtualization Technology. Can I run Windows XP mode using VMware Player
VG
^^ No. Windows XP Mode requires the Virtualization technology in processor.

howdy vg.
i have used windows 7 on a virtual mach.
and i have added a hard disk to it. ( i have linked it to my data partition )
but y does after i log on to my windows 7
and try to access my drive D i got the msg like i am not permitted
click ok to gain access.
sumthing like that. but after i have gain access i notice that my host os ( XP )
after next reboot displays the chkdsk screen
and says that it needs to be check consistently. ( i think contuing this process deletes
security data handled by the virtual windows 7 which i use to gain access on my D )
it is like xp and virtual 7 taking ownerships on files??
can i fix it so they cud have both. though its the first tym i use a virtual mach.
i am using vmware 6.
thx vg
VG
^^ Yup. It seems like a permission issue but I'm not sure.
