Windows Vista SP2 Beta Available to TechNet and MSDN Subscribers, Public Release on 4th December

As you all know Windows Vista SP2 beta builds were released to a few selected beta testers recently. Today Microsoft has officially released the SP2 Beta to TechNet and MSDN subscribers.

So if you are a TechNet or MSDN subscriber, you can download it from your account. If you can't see it in the list, wait for a few minutes/hours.

If you are not a subscriber, then no need to worry. Microsoft is going to release the same beta build to public on 4th December.

SP2 supports new types of hardware. It improves the administration experience and eases certain management and support challenges. It also minimizes deployment and testing complexity for customers. In addition to all previously released updates, SP2 contains changes focused on addressing reliability and performance issues.

Following are a few interesting new features in SP2:

  • SP2 contains Blue tooth 2.1 feature pack supporting the most recent specification for Blue tooth technology
  • Ability to record data on Blu-Ray media
  • exFAT file system now supports UTC timestamps, which enables correct file synchronization across time zones
  • Inclusion of Windows Search 4 for improved indexing performance
  • Improvements to the RSS feeds sidebar gadget to improve update performance and responsiveness
  • Spysweeper and ZoneAlarm now working with POP3 email accounts
  • Customers installing .net framework 3.5 service pack 1 will notice shorter download and installation times with Vista service pack 2 or Windows 2008 service pack 2 already installed
  • Service Pack Clean up tool (Compcln.exe) to help restore the hard disk space by permanently deleting the previous versions of the files (RTM & SP1) that are being serviced by Service Pack 2
  • Single installer for both Vista & Server 2008
  • Inclusion of Hyper-V
  • Windows Vista Feature Pack for Wireless
  • Reduction of resources required for sidebar gadgets
  • Improved power settings for WS08

So you can see its going to fix lots of compatibility, performance and stability issues in Vista. So download and install it without wasting your time...

  2. I downloaded it twice and cannot mount the iso (only the SP2, for Vista and 2008).
