I'm using Windows Live Mail (Previously known as Windows Live Mail Desktop) since many months and I'm very much impressed with it.
But when I installed the latest Windows Live Mail Beta version, I found a few BUGs in this version which I would like to share with you all:
FIRST BUG:
This BUG works in laptops:
1. Open WLM and right-click on its system tray icon and select "Hide window when Inbox is minimized" option.
2. Now minimize WLM and it'll move to System Tray and there'll be no button of WLM in taskbar.
3. Now close the lid and again open it.
4. VOILLA, you'll get WLM in taskbar again even you minimized it to System tray.
SECOND BUG:
1. Go to "Layout -> Folder Pane" and enable/disable "Use Compact View for Folder Pane" option.
2. Click on "Apply" button but don't close it. It'll totally disturb the left side pane.
THIRD BUG:
1. Again go to "Layout -> Active Search" and enable/disable "Show Active Search pane" option.
2. Click on "Apply" button but don't close the options window.
3. It'll not show the Active Search at right side until you close the options window. As soon as you click on OK or on Close button, you'll get Active Search at right side pane.
FOURTH BUG:
If you click on "Change Color Scheme" button at toolbar, WLM titlebar changes to inactive state.

Regarding the To: field. It seems to work again if you click in the subject field then back to the To: field again. So there is a way forward at least if you accidently do this.
My issue is the Quick View -> "Flagged Items" - It claims to show flagged items in News, Inboxes. When you flag / unflag items it seems to increase the count. but when you go into the "Flagged Items" it only seems to show the news flagged items. Now, it seemed to work before I added and played around with News Groups. Now, even when there are no flagged items, flagging a new Mail item doesnt get placed in this list!
Maybe we're expecting too much too soon.

Like Jimbo, I too have the copy/paste problem with LiveMail.
Cannot copy/paste anything from LM to Word, Excel, NotePad, etc.
Happens on ALL 3 of my machines, 2 XP-sp3 & Vista.
Any hope that MS will acknowledge something is wrong????

^^ We have forwarded the bug to Microsoft Live team and lets hope it'll be fixed in the future release. :)

Does anyone know how to not make it automatically go to the last message you were looking at? i mean this in 2 ways. 1 being - theres no welcome screen, it just pops right to a message, i dont like that. and 2 - wehn you click on an account, say you were looking at an email from 2 months ago... it will pop back to that one when you click that account again, making you have to scroll al the way down or up (depending on your setup) and click on it to finally see the new email.
outlook express was alot better in both of these areas. why cant vista just also have outlook express? it would make live so much easier!!

Mel,
I do not use Live Mail. In fact it's been removed from this computer. Anyway instead I use Thunderbird which is a free, powerful email client build by the same team as Firefox. Allows for great addons, spam detection and multiple accounts, even has addons for grabbing your hotmail, yahoo.
Sure Live Mail did look better, and fitted in with Vista's theme and style. But Thunderbird wins for me.
Addon's I use are: Attachment Extractor, British English Dictionary, Nostalgy, Remove Duplicate Messages, WebMail, which make my life much easier.

I have tried to use CTRL+C to do a copy of text in Windows Live Mail (version 2008, Build 12.0.1606) on four different Vista systems (some are Business Edition and some are Premium).
This key combination works in nearly any other application I try on Vista (from Notepad, to Word, to IE, etc.) It does NOT work for me in single application: Windows Live Mail (the client app).
Just to be sure: I am not referring to Windows Mail nor Outlook Express or anything else.
In fact, if I right-click to select "copy" it doesn't even indicate that there is a shortcut keyboard option.

Aiya, Thunderbird is good and everything and on Linux boxes it is my favorite mail client. However, it also has its own problems. The biggest inconvenience is that it doesn't have a prev/next button to navigate from one message to another, and the closest they came up with is prev unread/next unread, which navigates from one unread message to another, and many times I got confused because it looped to an unread message from centuries ago.
Another problem of course, is that it cannot access hotmail. :S

Oh jeez, I can't tell you how (sort-of) relieving it is to know that I am not the only person with this horrific annoyance of copy/paste problem in the Windows Live Mail application. I recently upgraded from Outlook Express which is not supported anymore. Jimbo above hit it dead on. That is precisely the behavior my Windows XP Pro SP3 machine exhibits. The first Ctrl-C copy works. Subsequent ones do not. Dah! What a maddening annoyance! C'mon, Microsyth. Fix this already!
