The above tutorial requires to modify a few system files. We also posted a few ready-made files which can be used to change Windows 8 Start Screen color from green to blue, black or purple:
Change Windows 8 Start Screen Green Background to Purple, Black or Blue
Now we are going to share a very small, free and portable tool "Windows 8 Start Tweaker" created by "Ruanmei" @ DA which allows you to change Windows 8 Start Screen and Login Screen background image and color quickly and easily.
You can apply any desired image file as the background image. The file format must be PNG, BMP, JPG or GIF.

Important Instruction:
If you want the image to fill the whole screen, you should make an image by yourself. The height of the image should be doubled with the height of your Screen Resolution. For example, if your Screen Resolution is 1280x800, you should make an image with height 1600 px.
You can download it using following link:
Just download the file, extract it and run the EXE file.

I think when the rsolution is 1920x1080px and you make a image of 1920x2160px you get rid of stripes and then the middle 1080px must be seen as some kind of gap in the image :/ maybe that does the job
