There are lots of changes in this new build. Some of them are as follows:

  • The infamous UAC issue has been fixed. In previous Windows 7 builds when you changed the UAC level, Windows didn't show any prompt message. It was dangerous from security point of view as a malware can turn off UAC on a system easily.
  • New user display pics
  • New Wallpapers
  • New Icons for few programs
  • New login screen

Following are some screenshots:

NOTE: This new build comes with a new bug. A "desktop.ini" file opens in Notepad at each startup.

You can fix it using following steps:

1. Open Windows Explorer and go to "Organize -> Folder and Search Options" and click on View tab. Now enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives" option and disable "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" option.

2. Now provide following commands one by one in RUN or Startmenu Search box:

shell:startup
shell:common startup

It'll open "Startup" folder for current user and all users respectively.

3. You'll see "desktop.ini" file present in each folder. Delete it.

4. That's it. Restart your system and now you'll not see the annoying file at startup.

Thanks to Neowin and Geeksmack for this news and screenshots...

  • What i'm hoping to see in windows 7 now is the performance, i think the interface is already good enough for me. Hopefully windows 7 will show noticeable performance improvement compared to windows xp and vista when it is released or else it will just be another windows with different looks.

    faster?

  • where can you download it from?

  • Will normal users be able to test the release candidate for free?

  • VG

^^ Yes. RC build will be released to public very soon most probably near 10th April.

  • SPEN: Yes, I upgraded from 7000 to 7022, then from 7022 to 7048 and yesterday night from 7048 to 7057.

It's worth it and runs smooth. Only problem is that it will take more than 2 hrs.
