[Windows 10 Tip] Remove “Edit with Paint 3D” Option from Image Context Menu

In newer Windows 10 versions, Microsoft has added a new modern app called “Paint 3D“. Now you get both classic MS Paint program and the new Paint 3D app in Windows 10.

This new Paint 3D app also adds a new option “Edit with Paint 3D” in image’s context menu. Whenever you right-click on an image file such as a BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG, etc file, you get this extra option in the context menu as shown in following screenshot:

In previous Windows 10 versions, when Paint 3d app was not available, another option “3D Print with 3D Builder” was shown in image’s context menu which could be removed with the help of following tutorial:

Now “3D Print with 3D Builder” option has been replaced by new “Edit with Paint 3D” option in image file’s context menu.

If you don’t want to use Paint 3D app and want to remove this option from the context menu, this tutorial will help you.

Today in this tutorial, we are going to share a small registry tweak to delete “Edit with Paint 3D” option from image file’s context menu.

Check out following simple steps to get rid of this new option:

1. Press “WIN+R” key combination to launch RUN dialog box then type regedit and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.3mf\Shell\

3. Under Shell key, you’ll find a key 3D Edit, right-click on the key and select Delete.

4. Delete 3D Edit key under following keys as well:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.bmp\Shell\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.fbx\Shell\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.gif\Shell\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.jfif\Shell\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.jpe\Shell\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.jpeg\Shell\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.jpg\Shell\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.png\Shell\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.tif\Shell\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.tiff\Shell\

5. That’s it. It’ll immediately remove the “Edit with Paint 3D” option from image’s context menu as shown in following screenshot:

BONUS TIP: If you open Registry Editor and press Ctrl+F keys to open Find box and search for 3D Edit string, it’ll directly let you go to the above mentioned keys. Press F3 to go to the next key. You can also copy/paste the above mentioned key paths one by one in Registry Editor’s addressbar and press Enter key to directly go to the keys.
