Its an update over previous VistaVG RTM theme.

This theme has been made for Windows XP users who want to have "Windows Vista" look in their Windows. This theme can make your Windows XP look like Windows Vista.

"VistaVG" is the first Windows Vista look-a-like theme for Windows XP and almost all other themes available on net are based on it.

FIX:

1. Chevron BUG fixed.

2. Startmenu image BUG fixed.

And a few other BUGs fixed...

NEW:

1. A new style "Black" has been added to the theme after a lot of demand for black titlebar.

2. A separate theme for Startmenu Searchbar lovers. It shows the Vista searchbar in Start menu but its fake. You need "LSPatch" to use it.

And more...

UPDATE:

1. Titlebar Text is shown in Left now.

2. Common Tasks are also shown in Left but an extra "shellstyle.dll" file is included for bottom common tasks.

3. Aero style for 32x icon size is default now.

4. Lots of new Vista images, like "All Programs" arrow, Explorer arrows, Startmenu images, Logoff/Shutdown images, etc.

5. A few colors changed.

And lots of other small updates...

HOW TO USE:

1. Extract the contents and you'll get a folder.

2. In this folder, you'll get 4 more folders:

=> Bottom Common Tasks (This folder contains "shellstyle.dll" file for showing common tasks in explorer at bottom.)

=> Fonts (This folder contains Segoe UI fonts required for the theme. Copy them to "%windir%\Fonts" folder.)

=> Styler Toolbar (This folder contains Style toolbar for explorer. To know more about Styler and how to use it, visit following link:

How to Install and Apply Styler Toolbar Skin in Windows XP Explorer?

=> Theme (This folder contains the main theme.)

3. Copy all contents in "Theme" folder to "%windir%\Resources\Themes\" folder.

4. Now you can set the theme using Desktop Properties.

5. Also make sure you have patched the "uxtheme.dll" file to allow 3rd party visual styles, if its not patched, then download and run the UXtheme Patcher from here:

For XP SP3 Users - Download UXTheme Patcher
For XP SP2 Users - Download UXTheme Patcher

NOTE: Avira anti-virus might show a virus alert in the pack which is a false positive alert. Actually it prompts about "LSPatch.exe" file which is included in the pack. LSPatch.exe doesn’t contain any virus. It modifies the "Explorer.exe" file which is a system file. That’s why Avira detects a CloseApp riskware in the file. No other anti-virus detect any suspicious item in the pack. So you can safely ignore the alert.

  • Hey There,
Was wondering if there is a script or how to, which would describe the process of slipstreaming this into my network installation point.

    @Deepak
    Problem has been fixed. :)

    @fxrsliberty
You can use nLite to include it in CD.

  • Thanks VG, looks great!
I noticed that the previous "VistaVG Theme for Windows XP" used Tahoma as the default font(except window title), and now it's Segoe UI.
I know that Segoe UI is the deault font in Vista. But since I don't use the ClearType, the Segoe UI font can't displayed well on my LCD
So I changed back and using the old version now. It's great, too, but I like the new one better... So will this theme can be available for Tahoma? It seemed simply change the font will make the buttons rather small or can't be used...

  • Oh I made a stupid mistake when I try to change the font into Tahoma...I ignored the "Size" options... :???: It's OK now  Thanks again for your great work!

^^ Welcome. I'm glad you liked the theme. :)

  • I can't see the "start menu profile picture". Any ideas why?

^^ Make sure you are using Welcome Screen. Open User Accounts in Control Panel and click on "Change the way users log on / off" link and then enable Welcome Screen.

  • Fantastic theme, thanks for such a great job.
It is not without reason that XP Black has chosen your theme as their theme of choice :)

After all this praising, one word of minor critique. I do not like the font that much...
And here is an interesting thing. When I try to change the font setting in the appearance/advanced tab, it automatically changes the way the title bar looks. For some reason the entire vista look is gone, leaving only a small red cross in the top right corner...
Any ideas, or am I doing something wrong?

  • VG

^^ Thanks for your kind words. btw what do you mean by "XP Black has chosen your theme as their theme of choice"?

Reg. to font issue, Segoe UI size and other font size is quite different thats why you are facing problems while changing the fonts. Try to set the size to "8" instead of 9. It might help.

  • @Peter:

I faced just the same problem before. ^^
Notice the "Size" option in the appearance/advanced tab, sometimes it will automatically change when you change to a different font. Select the different font, and then remember to restore the "Size" number back to the original setting.
(e.g. the windows' title's size is set to 23 by VG, bug it will automatically change to 18 when you select a different font. Change it back to 23, and it will be OK.)

ps. the default size of Sogoe UI is 9, but for many other fonts e.g. Tohoma, size 8 is the best size, and Tohoma 8 is the default setting of Windows.
