  • Hi, VG. I really need your help! I have a problem which I don't know what to do about. I'm sorry I'm posting my problem on this article, but I thought it would be best to do it on your latest article, where your attention might be more focused.
Okay, my thing is this. For some reason, I can't open my E-mail client from the Start menu. I use Outlook Express 6 and of course my OS is XP. I have Outlook Express pinned to the Start menu. But when I click on it, it comes up with an error message saying "Access is denied." When I click OK, it says "The item you requested is unavailable. It might have been moved, renamed or removed. Do you want to remove it from the list?"
Please, can you give me some help? It might be quite simple, but I can't work it out.
Really hope you can assist me! It's rather annoying and difficult to work with! Thanks in advance mate! :) :)

^^ It seems the shortcut destination no longer exists. Try to remove it from Startmenu and then open All Programs and drag-n-drop the Outlook Express shortcut to Startmenu pinned list (or right-click on Outlook Express shortcut and select Pin to Startmenu). I hope it'll work.

  • It worked! Oh, thanks so much!! :) You're really the best!

^^ Glad to help you. :)

  • Although there's just one thing. It used to be set out like this:

    E-mail
    Outlook Express

    Now it's just:

    Outlook Express

It looks a bit empty, because it isn't like it used to be when it said the "E-mail" thing above it. Is there any way to recover the old way? Or am I stuck with the program simply being pinned on the Start menu directly from All Programs? I can live with that, of course. But if there's some way, I'd be very glad. Thanks again, and sorry for troubling you like this!

  • Try right-clicking your taskbar, going to Properties -> Start menu -> Customize -> and then tell it to display your email client.

You could also just right-click Outlook Express and rename this shortcut, if you like.

(If you can live with it LOL)

  • Lol, @Tangmeister, judging by your last line, I must sound rather fussy ^^
Well, I'll see what I can do about it...

  • The thing is, it opens fine from the All Programs menu, and even when it's pinned to the Start menu. But when I did what Tangmeister said, by setting OE as the E-mail client, it went onto the Start menu, but it doesn't open. Also, it has a different icon for some reason, not the usual white envelope with the blue arrows, but a cream-coloured envelope with no arrows. Weird...

^^ it seems you have installed another mail client (most probably Windows Live Mail) in your system which is causing this problem.

Try to set Outlook Express as default mail client from its Preferences. Also set it default in "Default Programs" section under Add/Remove programs applet in Control Panel.

  • Yeah, I have installed Windows Live Mail, through Microsoft Update, but the thing that I was talking about was definitely Outlook Express. It said so, and it wasn't the Live Mail icon, either. But it's okay. I'll just switch to Windows Live Mail, I think, because it is newer and seems to work fine whereas OE doesn't open from the Startmenu. So yeah, Live Mail is working fine. But thanks so much for all your suggestions, VG. Your help is really very much appreciated! Thanks again mate.
