However, I will take issue with tip 1.1 => Set the value of network.http.pipelining to “true“. Although this makes things faster for most (?) sites, in the case of web sites not supporting pipelining, it makes things crawl. Example in case: http://www.filehippo.com/ (a s/w download site) - with the pipelining 'true', the site never stops loading (the rotating ticker on the upper right hand corner of Firefox never stops cycling, it goes on forever.
