[Tip] Restore Command Prompt Shortcut in Win+X Menu in Windows 10

When Microsoft introduced "Win+X Menu" in Windows 8 operating system, they added several useful system shortcuts into this menu. One of these useful shortcuts was "Command Prompt". Microsoft added "Command Prompt" and "Command Prompt (Admin)" shortcuts to Win+X menu which could be replaced by Windows PowerShell shortcuts using Taskbar Properties as mentioned here.

Now with the release of newer Windows 10 versions, Microsoft has replaced the "Command Prompt" shortcut with "Windows PowerShell" as default. So when you install or upgrade to newer Windows 10 versions, you'll find "Windows PowerShell" shortcut in Win+X menu instead of classic "Command Prompt" shortcut as shown in following screenshot:

Fortunately, restoring "Command Prompt" shortcut is still possible in Win+X menu. Today in this tutorial, we'll tell you how to replace new "Windows PowerShell" shortcut with traditional "Command Prompt" shortcut in Win+X Menu in Windows 10.

Following screenshot shows the old "Command Prompt" shortcut back in Win+X Menu in Windows 10:

If you are also using new Windows 10 build and want to bring back "Command Prompt" shortcut in Win+X menu, following steps will help you:

1. Right-click on Taskbar and select Taskbar settings option.

2. It'll open Taskbar Settings page. Now look for "Replace Command Prompt with Windows PowerShell in the menu when I right-click the start button or press Windows key+X" option.

3. The option is set to ON by default. Click on the option slider and set it to OFF.

That's it. It'll immediately restore "Command Prompt" shortcuts in Win+X menu in Windows 10.
