"The Search Bar" gadget is an excellent gadget for Windows 7 users which allows you to easily search from various providers right from your desktop. You can search from Amazon, AOL, Ask.com, Bing, Google, Wikipedia or Yahoo.

This gadget has been created by "David" @ JCXP Forums.

If you want to switch search providers, simply click on the icon and select one from the list.

At the moment, this gadget is intended for Windows 7 and does not include a smaller "docked" mode for use with the Vista Sidebar. It is designed to float on your desktop.

  • This is kind of useless for me. I always have my windows maximized, so it's faster to ctrl-T and type something in the bing bar.

Still cool though for people who have their windows not maximized :)

  • Works well with Vista as a floating gadget. Docks alright too. Almost unbstrusive "looking" on the sidebar if it's the very top or bottom gadget. Really elegant.

  • or you can just use launchy which is awesome.

  • After using this for a while, it does get pretty useless, but it's really nice to just have on the desktop. Not sure why so many gadgets for the sidebar are so ugly, when something that looks this nice arises. I guess most of them are just over making widget's for Apple's dashboard or something. Still going to keep this though. ^.^
