Taskbar Iconizer: Utility to Iconize Taskbar in Windows XP and Vista

Recently we posted a small tutorial on how to get Windows 7 Iconized Taskbar feature in Windows XP and Vista:

Get Windows 7 Iconized (Icon Only) Taskbar Feature in Windows XP and Vista

The above tutorial shows how you can get the iconized taskbar easily by modifying Windows registry.

And now we are very pleased to announce that our very close friend "Solo-Dev" aka "Villain" has created a very small standalone utility exclusively for AskVG.com readers which can do the same task automatically.

"Taskbar Iconizer" is a small portable tool which uses the same registry trick to provide iconized taskbar feature in XP and Vista. You just need to download the file, run it and it'll show following window:

Simply click on the right-side image which shows "Windows 7 Type Iconized" and you have done. You'll need to log off or restart the system to take affect.

To restore default settings, click on the left-side image.

^^ Simply delete the value mentioned in Step 4:

  • Thanks my friend wanted to know, but i have another question when i installed with a bunch of other customizations you gave out i started getting this problem were my windows explorer(the taskbar) keeps on crashing, do you think it is related to you, and if it is do you know how to fix it

  • VG

^^ If you replaced or modified any system file, it might cause this problem. But theme, icon packs, etc will not cause such kind of problem. Are you also using any 3rd party eye candy utility by any chance?

  • yea, im using windowsblinds, but it never caused me problems anymore. Which files do you me when "modified any system file"

  • srry i meant windowblinds never caused problems with me ever

  • VG

^^ I mean, have you modified any system file like Explorer.exe, shell32.dll, etc? Or replaced these files with a downloaded one?

If not, then make sure you are not using 3rd party eye candy utilities to show transparency, etc. Sometimes such applications cause these kind of problems.

  • i never replaced anything, but would windowblinds count as one because it never caused me problems, but i think it interfers with the windows 7 taskbar look that you suggested so do you think that might be the problem

  • VG

^^ It might be. Try to disable WindowBlinds and check whether you still get the crash problem or not.

  • actually for the first letter thing someone mentioned i didn't get the first letter just the icon, but when i tried to apply your windows 7 theme it added back the first letter, so i got rid of it and now i have the icon and the first letter sadly
