Get Windows 7 Iconized (Icon Only) Taskbar Feature in Windows XP and Vista
The above tutorial shows how you can get the iconized taskbar easily by modifying Windows registry.

Is there currently a way to get Windows 7 super bar in Vista?
VG
^^ Use a Windows 7 theme for Vista which can bring the superbar in Vista. Check Vista themes section:

Yeah, but what about the Superbar Thumbnails? I saw windows 7 themes that include the Superbar thumbnails but they are for XP and I don't see any for Vista.
VG
^^ Windows 7 taskbar thumbnails are very much similar to Vista one.

You can get the first letter to disappear by changing the active title bar to 18 pixels, but the problem is with themes i have used, this causes the minimize, maximize, buttons to disappear from the title bar. Just a suggestion and comment
