Taskbar Bug in Windows Vista

Its a cool bug which I found today in Windows Vista:

1. Double-click on the bottom area of taskbar where system tray icons are displayed, like Windows Defender, Removable Media, Yahoo! Messenger, etc icons. You can unlock the taskbar and increase its size to see the area more clearly:

2. You’ll be surprised when “Windows Defender” window will open even you didnt click on its icon.

NOTE: Windows Defender should be enabled and running to recreate this bug.

  1. This isn’t a bug, this is meant to happen, I used to do it on Windows XP to open the Anti-Virus I was using at the time

  2. ^^ But if you are not using Windows defender, then it doesnt happen and why Windows defender opens even if you are not opening it?

  3. It’s supposed to open the anti-virus program, in my case clicking that empty space opens Avira. Definitely a feature, not a bug.

  4. ^^ Hi Emil

Its a known bug and has been confirmed. Actually it varies from machine to machine.
In some machines it opens “Removable Media dialog box”, in some it opens “Windows Defender” and as you mentioned in your system it opens “Avira”.

    So its a bug. ;)
