@Jeff
You need to delete the keys, not add them.

@Nowonmai,

What Flavor of Windows are you running? If you're XP, open regedit and click on "Edit" then "Find". Type in NoSaveSettings and then click Find Next. Every instance of NoSave will be listed. Hit F3 to continue to the next instance.

Remember, setting it to "1" enables and "0" disables. To change the values, right click on it in the right pane and click "Modify". Another window will open and it will have either a "1" or a "0"; enter the value you want and click OK. Close out of the Registry and that's it.

@oren,

What I did was to open the folders, delete the "thumbs.db" files. Then I went to Folder Options in Control Panel and unchecked "Do Not Cache Thumbnails". Then I went back into the folders and clicked "View" and set the folders to the view I wanted them.

It was a pain but it worked for me. I'da thought Kelly's-Korner would have had a fix for this.

Hi VG,

Did the above — no joy. What I have been able to narrow it down to is that when I open Windows Explorer and open *any* file or folder, when I close out, a few of the folders on my Desktop will open in the Details View instead of the Icons or Thumbnails I've got it set to. This happens every time without exception.

Now, here's where it gets weird: If I open the recalcitrant folders *first* and then close out of them and goto Windows Explorer, I can open any files or folders and do anything in there and the folder settings will stay.

I've even set the "folder views" to 10,000 and get the same results. I've deleted the thumbs.db files, rebooted and reset the View — no joy.

You have to manually add it if it doesn't exist. What I found is even when I added it, the settings did not save. I'm trying to get the Quick Launch toolbar to stay. Sometimes when I reboot it's there, sometimes it's not. I don't get it....

I have the same problem. My taskbar always resets itself in both Vista and Windows 7. I have tried the NoSaveSettings both by adding it and by deleting it. Nothing works. This is my biggest complaint on both of these operating systems.

Any other ideas?
