The solution given in the article did not help on my Vista OS. I was having similar problem of folder/file names not showing in a particular folder in icon views.

What worked was this:

- Enabled Organize>Folder and search options>Show hidden files and folders

- Deleted the Desktop.ini file located in the specific folder.

- Refreshed view
