I have same rayan's problem. My win 7 Enterprise cannot show watermark on desktop , while I set value in "PaintDesktopVersion" to 1. Please help me...

i changed value of "PaintDesktopVersion" DWORD to 1 on my windows 7 Enterprise . but it doesn't show anythings on Desktop . i enabled it on XP OS in past but it doesn't work on my win 7 OS Now !
help me please ...

I know but I got an unexpected result when I imported registry settings from vista into xp.I love to modify my os install. :) I don't mind having the build number displayed.

^^ This tutorial is about changing the build number. The registry trick to show build number works in all Windows but customizing the build number by modifying user32.dll.mui file works only in Vista and 7.

Like I said I did not edit the win32k.sys file.All I did was in Vista home basic was make a back-up of the registry settings here:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop exported them as a reg file and also made a back-up of the same reg settings here:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop and also backed them up so I have a install and uninstall reg key files.

I used the "install" reg key and added it to my win xp os and it worked but I had to re-apply the embedded theme as the minimise,restore down and close button has been shrunk in the applying of the reg key saved from win vista home basic.What I meant by the problem with editing of the win32k.sys file was just repeating what you had said earlier in the comments regarding the article.

I tried this hack in win xp and it worked but I had to re-apply the embedded theme as the minimise,restore down and close buttong has been shrunk in the applying of the hack.I did not edit the .sys file though.Just left the build number there as it looks cool.

Can you please mention in the article that it can be done in Xp as it can but modifying the .sys will have problems....
