We have seen Ribbon UI in Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010. Microsoft also used the same ribbon UI in Windows 7 Wordpad and Paint.
Now it seems Microsoft is going to use the same Ribbon UI in Windows 8 shell i.e. Windows Explorer.
Following is a screenshot of Windows 8 Explorer which reveals the secret Ribbon UI.

You can hide the ribbons if you want. It seems Microsoft might replace Menubar and toolbar with this Ribbon UI in future builds.
What do you think about the use of Ribbon UI in Windows Explorer? Do you like this new change?

i hate the new explorer ui in windows 8 because it does not look user friendly. Microsoft claims they want a user friendly operating system but they are constantly changing the explorer ui. Microsoft stop changing the ui configuration and stick with the windows 7 ui

great. just great. years ago (maybe three or four years) i predicted they're going to make such UI switch, and now look: i predicted right. OMG. btw i like it except that all the ribbons icons r replaced with this weird circle icon.

Personally, I don't really like the "current" look of the Ribbon UI in Windows Explorer.
I like seeing it on other programs, as they are useful to me, however, adding the ribbon to the explorer is kind of "too much".
We still don't know how it really is going to look as final, whether they are changing the look or not. They may change the look, and I might like it in the future, but as for now, I wouldn't want to use it.
It does say "Secret Ribbon UI Revealed..." in the title, so Microsoft may add a way to enable/disable it. If that's the case, then they should leave it.

Did anyone at Microsoft ever bother to ask anyone out in the real world if the ribbon was "better"? I never though it was; personally, I think it makes things more difficult and confusing, especially for those users who prefer to use the keyboard to navigate through menu options. (I'm not one of them, to be honest, but I don't have to be to know that the ribbons don't make it any easier.) Sure, they're a minority of people, but overall it's just one more example of Microsoft substituting usability with glitz and flash, while waving away objections with the shopworn "it's better" cop-out.
Is it really so difficult to offer the choice to users, to use either menus or the ribbon? As a programmer who's created many desktop apps (some in C#, many in C++ with MFC), I know damn well it's not. Microsoft really has no reason to do this except as a means to force users into what they arrogantly think is "better."

it would be good if they add certain functionalities, but on more parts it would be complicated for average windows user!
just my thinking, they should really retain that hide ribbons thing.

I always preferred the Ribbon myself. Took me two hours to get the hang of it and I was in love. Soooo much more user-friendly. But not everyone would agree, so I do hope Microsoft provides an option to hide the Ribbon, for their own sake.

Love it... I always imagined the Ribbon UI for Windows Explorer and Windows Media Player.
