[Review] Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with Google Android 7.0 Nougat Update

Recently Samsung released Android 7.0 Nougat firmware for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge mobile phones. The update size was around 1.2 GB and it came with several UI changes and new features.

Samsung has changed the user interface a lot in this new 7.0 Nougat update. Notification panel, Settings, App screen, contacts, dialer and many other things have got a brand new UI. Now the new UI is very refreshing, clean and awesome looking.

The UI in both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge is identical in Nougat update and today in this article, we are going to review Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge UI in new Android 7.0 Nougat update.

So without wasting time lets start the exclusive review:

Main App Screen:

The main app screen now uses more blur effect. It contains a search box at the top to search for bundled as well as user installed apps.

You can create groups, uninstall apps by taping on the 3-dots icon present at the top-right corner.

Notification Panel:

Notification Panel is the area which has changed the most. Now when you swipe down the status bar, the mini notification panel is shown containing 6 small toggle icons such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Mobile data, Sound, etc.

When you again swipe down the panel, full notification panel is shown containing all toggle icons.

You can tap on the down arrow icon given next to brightness slider to change its settings such as automatic brightness, show brightness slider in the mini notification panel, etc.

There is another interesting feature! You can tap on the label of any toggle icon to access extra settings to customize that icon appearance, etc. For example, if you tap on “Torch” label, you can adjust the brightness of the torch.

You can also change toggle buttons layout by taping on 3-dots icon given at the top-right corner and selecting “Button layout” option. Now you can select the button layout from 3×3, 4×3 or 5×3.

Settings Screen:

Settings menu has also changed a lot. Now all settings items have been divided into different sections such as Connections, Sounds and vibration, Display, Advanced features, etc.

A new “Blue light filter” option has been added to “Display” section which can be enabled to reduce eye strain by limiting the amount of blue light emitted by the screen.

Wallpapers and Themes menus have been merged into a single section and now you can download new wallpapers, themes and icon packs using Samsung account.

A new “Device maintenance” menu has been added to optimize your smartphone performance. It helps you in gaining extra battery life, getting free storage space, freeing up RAM and improving device security.

Dialer and Phone Apps:

The dialer has become awesome. When you make or receive a phone call, the dialer screen color is changed every second using an awesome animation.

Also the recent phone call screen and contacts screen have been changed. Now both screens look very clean and minimal.

You can see Samsung has improved the UI a lot in the new Android 7.0 Nougat update and almost every app and screen has been updated to match the new UI. In coming days the Nougat update will be released for more Samsung mobile phone models.
