Remove ADs from Yahoo! Messenger 8 Final

Following 2 methods can be used to remove ADs from the new Yahoo! Messenger 8:

A. Remove the BIG AD from the Main yahoo! screen, where we see our Buddy List:

1. Open “%Programfiles%\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe” file into a Hex Editor. You can use XVI32, its free.

2. Goto the offset 3981AC and change the string “enabled” to anything you want.

B. Remove other ADs like in chat window, webcam, etc.:

1. Open notepad and paste the following code:

“Stock Alert Ad URL”=”*”
“Webcam Viewer Ad Medium”=”*”
“Webcam Viewer Ad Big”=”*”
“Webcam Viewer Ad”=”*”
“Webcam Upload Ad”=”*”
“Chat Transition Ad”=”*”
“N2Phone Adurl”=”*”
“Webcam Viewer Ad Bid”=”*”

2. Save the file with any name and extension .REG

3. Run the file and merge it into registry.

i have done the above steps for yahoo ver 8 (final), but i seem to have lost the audibles and IMvironments… how can i get them back?

^^ The hack has nothing to do with audibles and IMVironments. May be you must have changed some other hex location?

Look in the Yahoo! folder and if you find a backup file of yahoo! messenger EXE, then replace new edited file with old one.

Look into the same folder “%Programfiles%\Yahoo!\Messenger\”, there should be a backup file with the name like:

YahooMessenger_backup.exe
YahooMessenger.exe.backup
YahooMessenger_original.exe

etc. You need to do is, delete the new hacked “YahooMessenger.exe” file and then rename the backup file with “YahooMessenger.exe”

You need latest Flash Player installed in your system to use Yahoo! audibles. You can get it from http://www.adobe.com

Brilliant hack !!! Thanks a lot! This was the only hack (I tried) and worked also for non-administrator users!

One word though.. on the Messenger version I have (8.1.0.249), the “enabled” string appears at offset 3A1250. Anyway it is the first encounter of “enabled” in the file. I changed that one (after making a backup, of course) and it does the trick.
