Puran Defrag: The Best Defragmenter for Your Hard Disk

If you are a Windows user, you might probably know about "Disk Defragmentation". Its a built-in utility in Windows which reorganizes the data on disk so that it can occupy one large continuous area instead of lying here and there on the disk. It's a useful feature and makes the data transfer faster.

But Windows built-in defrag utility is not perfect. It lacks many essential features and also takes longer time to defrag the disk. So today we are going to share an excellent defrag utility from "Puran Software" called "Puran Defrag".

The outer edge of our hard disk is the fastest and as we go inside reading and writing speed gets slower and slower. So it will be a good idea to place frequently used files in order on the outer edge of the disk. This is what PIOZR do, it places frequently used files in order at faster disk areas and hence boost the overall system speed.

You can also schedule defragmentation. You can schedule at every startup or you can select a particular day and time to start defragmentation.

It also supports boot time defragmentation.

It also adds an option in drive context menu, so you can easily start it by right-click on a particular drive and select "Puran Defrag".

Personally I like jk Defrag For its portability, or Auslogics disk defrag, even though its not totally freeware.

Defraggler is what I use.. It is freeware.. Just don't install any yahoo toolbar etc..

Puran Defrag has just gone free. The link in the article points to the free non-commercial version.
As far as I know, other than Puran Defrag, just a few free defragmenters (like MyDefrag and Ultimate Defrag 1.72) are able to perform directory consolidation. Puran Defrag is light-weight, has boot-time defrag and it's schedule system is quite flexible.
It's really nice to see that Puran Defrag goes free.

Some points to add:
The screenshots are from an old version. Newer versions of Puran Defrag allow more than one scheduled jobs. It now also has screensaver defrag and idle defrag (start after idle for 5-30 minutes, and the minimum number of days between each defrag).
Its PIOZR uses layout.ini and doesn't require NTFS last accessed time.

The latest Version of Puran Defrag is available as a freeware for non-commercial use(version 7).It's performance is also little bit faster than version 6

Recently, I noticed my icons are missing... err, to be specific, .png icon "pics" are changed into .gif "pics". It's hard to explain, but here's an image to better understand what I'm saying:

See? They are different files, .png and .gif. Unfortunatly, you can see the "colourful circle" is the same! Ugh... I want the .png to be different from .gif. I know how to change .gif's "picture", but not .png.

Any help with changing .png's one.

PLEASE REPLY! I BEG YOU! THIS IS BOTHERING ME QUITE A LOT! I always save my pictures as .png... it doesn't look "nice" since I don't like the "pic" for .png. Please help!!!
