[FIX] Optical Drives (CD/DVD) Not Showing in My Computer Window

Many times users face strange problem when they can't the optical drives in My Computer window even if the drive is fine and works in other computers.

If you also facing this problem and can't see your optical drives (CD/DVD Drives/Writers) in My Computer, then this tutorial will help you.

Simply follow these simple steps:

1. Type regedit in RUN dialog box and press Enter. It'll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. Delete "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters"keys in right-side pane.

4. Restart the system and now you should have access to your optical drives.

This works great to gain optical drive access back - but now itunes fails. (on x64 windows 7)... it says that the registry keys that itunes uses are gone... any thoughts?

^^ Run iTunes setup again and it should repair the problem.

hello there,

i have a problem with my optical drive (NEC DVD-RW 3550A, 5 years old).
when i insert cd, it reads it normal, but when i insert dvd it doesn't read it. i hear that it spins in drive but i don't see any folder. it just changes label in My Computer from DVD-RW Drive (E:) to CD Drive (E:).
i reinstall Win, so i don't know was it like that before reinstallation (or when did it stop working).
only one program could read dvd, CD/DVD diagnostic and when i open dvd with that program i can see folders.
so , i don't know what to do. driver is impossible to find (just a firmware, which i upgraded). last chance is to reinstall Win again, or clean lens.. or to buy a new drive :)

can you tell me if i can look somewhere in Win to set it up, because it's really strange situation, especially because only that program can read it. if it's something wrong with lense, i suppose that none of programs could read a dvd.
