You can obtain default "shell32.dll" file from any other XP system and then replace in your system. Or run following command in Command Prompt:

sfc /scannow

It should restore default file. To access Command Prompt, press "F8" key at system startup and select "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" option from the list.

Kwesi, If you can log in through the login screen, check out my answer on Yahoo! Answers. I'm going to put up this link by tomorrow... sorry for the inconviniecne, I have to play Grand Theft Auto 3 right now... really sorry. You could search "Harry Manning" in with the search, along with "Task Manager" and "explorer.exe" and you should find it on Yahoo answers. Vishal could have some sort of solution for you in the meantime...

This is the wrong article to put this in, but I need help fast. I forgot to make a system restore point and I replaced shell32.dll, now my computer is not loading explorer.exe. Do I have to re-install my XP Home Edition? I have no disc to do that though.
