Since Windows 7 has been released to public, Microsoft has started working on the next Windows version which is codenamed as "Windows 8" at the moment.
"Stephen Chapman" @ Microsoft Kitchen posted a Windows roadmap which clearly shows that Windows 8 is scheduled to release in 2012. Microsoft has also mentioned in past that it'll try to keep a fixed 3 years gap between future Windows releases and it seems that they are really working hard to maintain this gap.

As you can see in the above roadmap, Windows 8 is mentioned as "Major Release" and is scheduled for 2012. The most interesting thing to notice in this rodamap is that Windows 7 is mentioned as "Release Update".
Just wait and watch this place for upcoming Windows 8 news and updates and also share your wishlists for Windows 8.

Ok its the someguywhocalledwin7adeceptivemarketingthingy guy again Haha
128-Bit Architecture does sound legitimate though i mean think of the builds 8, 16, 32, 64 bits...to a 128 bit sounds about right, and at the rate technology moves systems to support such an architecture would be about right just think of the ram it could support, and TB hdd standard? Hmmm....

I was the one who said I thought it was a bit deceptive calling Vista R2 "Windows 7" (after having also said it was one of the cleverest things MS has done), but don't misunderstand what I was saying. I was talking about the *name* of the OS, not the OS itself. I happen to love W7. It's a huge improvement over Vista. But it HAD to be. Vista was giving MS too much grief, even after SP1 & SP2.

wow ! microsoft just got lamer !.. they just released windows 7 and it's doing so well..it's the best OS ever released them...i havn't seen such a stable OS since very long.. Taking out windows 8 in just 2 yrs will just turn out to be like another vista ! :p i'm seriously not looking forward to it ..

I wonder if Microsoft will ever be able to come up with an OS that isn't trailing 5-10 years behind the Mac... Sad that so many Windows features are actually originally Apple technologies, made more accesible by Microsoft. It would be nice to see the software giant coming up with some great new technology of their own accord. Especially with IE going down the drain thanks to Mozilla's Firefox. Come on M$, you can do it...

@Yann my mistake please reclaim your title.
I am not all being hypocritical or interjecting the fact that windows 7 is the best "OS" thus far! I am running W7 and Office2010 I am a die hard PC man. I personally believe that Microsoft is ahead of the pack especially to be considering such changes now of 128bits and more ram and faster processors. Now i do agree with @Mark IE needs to be improved but coming standard with win7 you can see ms going in the right way!

I heard some news that Microsoft is now cooking a Service Pack for Windows 7. Hope it will fix some bugs that has left in Win7. There is even a rumor that MS is also starting on planning Windows 9 now even tho Windows 8 is still under planning. and Most probably 128-bit will be included in Windows 9 not Windows 8 since there is no hardware that can support 128-bit atm. Soon we might see a 256-bit to 1024 bit PCs! lol

Two things to be considered about my past remarks:
First: there are strong rumors about a new OS (W8 or W9) with 128bit plataform, some processor manufacturer is involved at the project to develop the hardware support.
Second: @magnumheart: the 2012 thing was a joke!:) I don't believe it will happens and I agree with your words.
@Rafael: um abraço meu camarada!:)

haa..haaa..
I'm going to stick with my XP for eternity thanks to the driver and software compatibility and memory hogging characters of all new Microsoft OS. (vista,win7,win8,....win22,..win99)
i don't understand why all they ask 4 GB of RAM to run smoothly, when an average user only wants to suft net and type documents.
