Since Windows 7 has been released to public, Microsoft has started working on the next Windows version which is codenamed as "Windows 8" at the moment.

"Stephen Chapman" @ Microsoft Kitchen posted a Windows roadmap which clearly shows that Windows 8 is scheduled to release in 2012. Microsoft has also mentioned in past that it'll try to keep a fixed 3 years gap between future Windows releases and it seems that they are really working hard to maintain this gap.

As you can see in the above roadmap, Windows 8 is mentioned as "Major Release" and is scheduled for 2012. The most interesting thing to notice in this rodamap is that Windows 7 is mentioned as "Release Update".

Just wait and watch this place for upcoming Windows 8 news and updates and also share your wishlists for Windows 8.

  • What that's a nice template for a new Visual Style ;-)

  • Love the code name "Windows 8", those guys at Microsoft don't like to give too much away. Just hope the final release has a meaningful title as I'm sure 50% of all Vistas problem started with it's name.

  • It says 'release "update" for windows 7, and then major release in 2012...Hmmm I heard someone say that win7 was not an actual release it was an update ie Vista SP3 so to make money and get new hype of a "new os" they named it windows 7....Hmmm

  • Now they have about 2 years to work on "Windows 8". I hope that this major release will amaze us with new themes, features etc.And by the way they can release at least a service pack for Windows 7 :D

  • This is an expected informations. Microsoft says many times ago what they will be release a new infromation every 3 years. So as it will be a major release i wnat to see a claimed feature list for upcoming OS.

  • a new operation system, sorry

  • wow this sounds interesting....

  • Of course W7 is a release update. It's really Vista R2, released in the same timeframe as Windows Server 2008 R2. The marketing people at Microsoft simply decided to give it a new name because Vista had such a bad reputation. One of the cleverest (& unfortunately deceptive) things that Microsoft has done.

  • WoW

  • Can't wait for the release......
