Recently Microsoft announced that "Windows XP Mode" for Windows 7 will get an update which will allow a system to run Windows Virtual PC and XP Mode even if it doesn't have Hardware-Assisted Virtualization (HAV) technology.
Actually if your system doesn't have HAV technology and you try to run XP Mode or Virtual PC, you get an error message similar to following one:

Now a patch KB977206 is available for Windows 7 systems which will remove this prerequisite and the system would be able to run Windows XP Mode and Virtual PC.

I also had an error on applying this patch, saying " The update is not applicable to your computer"
on my win 7 pC. But luckily i manged to get rid of this problem after a little R&D and got the xp
mode working on my win 7PC (without HAV.).
Firstly i installed the virtual pc setup update (KB958559) and then after i installed the
patch (KB977206) from MS and after every thing was done i hv installed the XP mode update.
Now i can run WIN XP virtually on my WIN 7 PC without any issues.
