A few Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 users have reported a strange issue to Microsoft. Their computer systems randomly stop responding. To fix this issue Microsoft has released a hotfix.
SYMPTOM:
A computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 randomly stops responding. The issue typically occurs when the memory usage is high and when the memory manager performs frequent paging in and paging out actions.
CAUSE:
The issue occurs because of a deadlock situation in the Microsoft Filesystem Filter Manager (Fltmgr.sys).
SOLUTION:
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article.
To apply this hotfix, you must be running one of the following operating systems:
- Windows 7
- Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

This was a very timely entry for me. My machine just started this recently. So far, it seems to be working.
Haeddy, these kinds of fixes are NOT available through MS update, they must be specifically requested from MS and link sent via email.

^^ I tried to post direct download link but its waste. The direct link asks for username and password. So you'll need to request it from Microsoft.

Well, requested the hotfix, got an email with the link, and the link is DEAD!!
