According to Microsoft, the Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free downloadable security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software.
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
The Microsoft Safety Scanner is not a replacement for using an antivirus software program that provides ongoing protection.

Look like cheap and outdated logo.
IE using IE7 logo = Better using IE9 logo
Windows Live using XP logo = Better using winvista/7 logo
MSE no logo = add logo

Better use hitman pro for online on demand scaning. It is tiny and very effective.

It's not a trial. It expires after 10 days so that the user downloads the new program which has the latest virus signatures. You don't want to scan a computer with an outdated virus database. Personally people are complaining but I don't understand how this is different than Dr. Web CureIt. This program also is a big download and you have to download the program again to get the latest signatures.
