I have just downloaded and installed Office 2010. Now everytime I want to open one of the applications, it goes through the whole configuration thing. Everytime! What's with that?

I have downloaded Microsoft Office 2010 setup, but when I run it... it needed "MSXML Version 6.10.1129". Where can I download it?

I didn't like Office 2010 beta so I thought I could just uninstall it and return to Office 2007. Not so, apparently. Office 2007 seems to have disappeared along with it. I have a better chance of marrying John Abraham than finding the installation CD and product key to reinstall 2007 at this point. Does this mean all is lost? Is there anything I can do?

Just download either the upgrade or keep 2007 also options. Typical microsoft fashion they tell you can customize installation and give simple instructions but when you do it, it's a crap shoot on what you get.
Another miss truth on the microsoft site is the size. I have enough bad experience with microsoft that I know enough to keep anything I really need. In this case after downloading uninstalling, reloading 2007 and re- installing beta 2010
My hard drive is 621 meg for 2007 and 1304 meg for 2010

People should also be aware some machines have to have the msxml version 6.10.1129 in order to install the beta. Of course you don't find this out until you wait the very long download, so save don't run download

For what it's worth, you don't need that screen size to run Office 2010. I ran it on a 1024x600 screen and I almost felt like I had too much screen space! :P

^ 1) Modifying the ribbon is built into the 2010 beta, but might not be kept in the RTM

2 and 3) No idea, I'll let someone else answer those.

4) Yes they'll be kept, but you can easily save as another file type under File-->Share-->Change File Type. It allows you to save as lots of different formats, including the old ones.

1) Will MS allow switching off, or hacking/modifying of the stupid "ribbon"? I just cant' bear only having one bar of customized buttons and then having to use the ribbon with its various sized icons, to find everything else. No 3rd party plug ins, just a MS supported mechanism to make the UI more familiar to users of previous office versions.

2) Will .ppt bring back some of the formatting/drawing features that were lost in the 2003-07 office "upgrade"

3) Will XL have native customizable error bars? Not an afterthought plug-in 6 months after release?

4) Will the .docx .xlsx .pptx fiel extensions (and ensuing e-mails from collaborators demanding I send them an office 03 compatible file) be kept? Some corporate users cannot easily install the backwards compatibility plug-in on their versions of office.
