Download Windows 8 “Aero Lite” Theme for Windows 7

We all know that Microsoft is working on its upcoming OS “Windows 8” and a Consumer Preview (public beta) build of Windows 8 is available free for download.

Windows 8 comes with new Aero theme which features new square window borders. Microsoft has also replaced Windows Vista and Windows 7’s “Basic theme” with a new “Aero Lite” theme in Windows 8. This theme is automatically activated when your computer hardware doesn’t meet minimum requirements to run Aero interface.

In initial stage, Windows 8’s Aero Lite theme was not looking good and people complained a lot about its look. So Microsoft fine tuned it in the current Consumer Preview build of Windows 8. Now “Aero Lite” theme looks neat and clean and minimal UI lovers are liking it for sure.

  1. The best Aero Lite you posted about so far. My only complaint is that you don’t get glass in the start menu.

  2. ^^ Yes. Most of the part.

    @Kyle
    You’ll need to manually change Start ORB using a software or by replacing existing BITMAP present in Explorer.exe file. The image resource is included in the theme pack.

  3. not for me I’m afraid…I’m not liking anything about windows 8 but appreciate you making us aware of it.

  4. VG i need a little help, whenever i try to use a third party theme in my laptop, it looks like basic theme without the aero effect, all the themes are working fine in other laptop, both have win7 ultimate 32 bit sp1, pls help

  5. ^^ When you use default theme, do you get Aero glass effect or do you get the default basic theme?

  6. @Kyle I’m not much of an expert at it but you can google ‘Windows Start Orb Changer’ and download the app. This lets you do things automatically. Just Helping and @VG your doing a great job with your website. I just <3 it.

  7. Replacing the Explorer.exe file made my computer show me an explorer.exe error code blabla and task manager gives me the same message and it wont open run or internet explorer or any hot key i have in my laptops keyboard, had to format and reinstall windows using the recovery thing. Don’t replace explorer or you’ll get in real trouble. Windows 7 Home Basic x64 with Aero Patch.

  8. I am making an Aero Lite theme for Vista. I am almost done with the RTM theme which i am working on theme both I’ll say the RTM theme of Windows 8 is 80% done.
