I just read a thread from a guy who used selective startup for 10 years and the day he wanted to go back to normal startup, it doesn't work, he broke windows.

If you want to learn how to disable items from your startup menu, first start with the actual program itself, look in settings. Second you remove it from the startup menu folder. Third step is to look at your RUN keys in the registry. HKEY>LM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version > Run and Run Once

Today I come across another posting of someone giving directions to use MSCONFIG to disable items from starting up. However, what you don't realize is MSCONFIG is a troubleshooting tool, not something to use to disable a program you don't know how to disable correctly in the first place.

Selective startup is only for troubleshooting bootup and startup problems temporarily disabling items that you are going to enable later once you figured out the problem. MSCONFIG is not a permament fix to anything, nothing, zip, zilch, nada. MSCONFIG is a troubleshooting tool used mainly by TRAINED and QUALIFIED technicians to troubleshoot boot problems. Can you image the poor guy using MSCONFIG for 10 years was ignorant for 10 years as well?

Thanks for the quick reply.. but.. there're a lot of registry keys we need to add and I don't know exactly the names of those strings and such.. so, can you make the registry collection of this things?

Thanks!

I noticed 7 does not have the boot defragmentation option on the registry, so should we create it to enable it?(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Dfrg\ BootOptimizeFunction)

Hi vishal. I see a problem with VISTA. when i look into the performance tab of task manager , i notice that the cache size keep increasing and free ram keep decreasing. At this point of time my laptop with 4gb of memory becomes very slow. Please suggest me a solution.

Fortunately or unfortunately, this could be titled "how to speed up Vista" or "how to speed up XP."

Hey VG I read your guide and not to sound mean or offending but its incredibly outdated. Business companies already have their hands on Windows 7 and if you use auslogics and ccleaner you'll be better off than messing with the registry.
