Outlook Express has been removed long time back in previous Windows versions but its code is still present in Windows 10. Microsoft is going to remove its non-functional legacy code from Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Users can use the built-in Mail app instead. Or you can use other alternatives as mentioned here.

Reader app and Reading List:

Both these features will be integrated into Microsoft Edge web browser, so these features will be removed.

Screen Saver Functionality in Themes:

Screen Saver functionality will be disabled in Themes. In Group Policies, Control Panel and Sysprep it’s now deprecated but will continue to be functional. Microsoft prefers to use Lockscreen features and policies.

Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET):

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will block its use. Microsoft advises to use the Exploit Protection feature of Windows Defender Exploit Guard as a replacement.

Syskey.exe:

Syskey.exe utility will no longer be supported in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update as its no longer considered as secure. Its based on weak cryptography that can be easily broken. Microsoft recommends to use Bitlocker or similar technologies instead of Syskey.exe utility.

Resilient File System (ReFS):

The ability to create ReFS volumes will only be available in “Windows 10 Enterprise” and “Windows 10 Pro for Workstations” editions. The creation ability will be removed from all other editions. All other editions will have only Read and Write ability.

TCP Offload Engine (TOE):

This functionality has been transitioned to the Stack TCP Engine in previous versions so its legacy code will be removed.

  1. about BitLocker updates: will it be necessary to decrypt drives before updating then encrypt them again after the update?

  2. For Bitlockler no need to decrypt drives before update, you just need to stop Bitlocker before
the update and restart Bitlocker after the update.
