As for a time table? My guess would be 2nd quater of '09 for beta's to begin. The longer SP2 stays in-house (in development) the better it will be for us. I'd expect SP2 development to start the day after the release of SP1. SP1 improved a few things (mainly 3d party driver compatibility issues), but, as you say, a lot was left undone. I am not as optimistic as you about the timing of this second release ("very soon in coming months". I'm not surprised at all.

The main driver for a SP (versus a swag of patches) at this stage would be compatibility with W7 requirements and bringing all the post-XP releases up to some level of commonality.
