With the release of Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview 1, Microsoft has made its very clear that Internet Explorer 10 will only support Windows 7 and 8. Windows XP and Vista users are out of luck.
If you try to install the Platform Preview build in XP or Vista, you get following message:
Windows Internet Explorer Platform Preview does not support any operating system earlier than Windows 7.
Also if you read the Release Notes carefully, its mentioned there as well:
The Internet Explorer Platform Preview requires Windows 7 (x86 or x64) Operating System. Platform Preview 4 and later require updates to be installed on Windows 7 systems, after which your computer will require a restart.
What do you think about this surprising decision of Microsoft? Are you still using XP or Vista?

Well yeah it's their way of trying to convince people to upgrade. When Vista failed majorly, many users switched back to XP vowing never to fall for any new version to come. But with Win 7 Microsoft has really come up with an OS that has all the visual allure of Vista and is fast all the same.
Seriously XP users should upgrade and it would be dumb to be using Vista still. So yeah, Microsoft isn't really forcing something trashy upon the users.

I'm all for Windows 7, but this kind of thing will destroy their market share. Not that I care, I use Chrome. Well, the only thing I can hope is that it causes more people to stop using that ancient but venerated OS known as XP. It's ten years old, after all.

Personally, I do not think Microsoft should do this, but I think its doing this because of the major fail of Vista. Windows 7 is truly better than Vista.

I still don't think that will convince people to move on to Windows 7 because the sad thing is that Firefox and Chrome has a mass majority stranglehold on web browsing. Oh well, haters gonna hate.

I think that is a good ideea, because Microsoft want to abandon old O.S, specialy XP. The decision to abandon Vista: is clear that is known for low performance and more user upgrade directly from XP to Win 7 skipping Vista. Windows 7 and 8 are future tehnlogy.

It is a matter of logic, why invest in outdated and archaic systems?
It is also a matter of policy, why to provide support to systems that the company expects to bury in a deep pit as quickly as possible?

"What do you think about this surprising decision of Microsoft?" Why is this so surprising? heXP and Vista are "legacy" OSs. I think it's time for people update their operating systems...

Right move by Microsoft. If people can't bother upgrading from a 10 year old OS, why do they want to work in IE10 anyway. They can stick to IE7 or something.
