As you know Windows 7 RTM has been released to TechNet and MSDN subscribers yesterday. If you are using Windows 7 RC build and want to upgrade to RTM build, you'll get following error message:

If you can remember, the same thing happened to RC build. Microsoft blocked upgrade from Beta build to RC build. We posted a tutorial to upgrade from Windows 7 Beta to RC build:
How to Upgrade from Windows 7 Beta to RC Build?
The same tutorial can be followed to upgrade from RC build to RTM build. So follow these simple steps:
1. Download the Windows 7 RTM ISO file and extract it using 7-Zip.
2. Now go to "Sources" folder and look for "cversion.ini" file.
3. Open the file in Notepad and you'll see following lines in the file:

4. As you can see the MinClient value is set to 7233 but the public RC build number was 7100. So just change 7233 to 7100 or 7000.

5. That's it. Save the file and run the setup.exe file again. Now it'll allow you to upgrade from RC build to RTM build.

I'm having the same problem as TGW, where it gets to the WPEINIT window and then leaves me hanging. going to poke around and see if I can nudge it into continuing somehow.

thanks for the tutorial-- it worked! I had 2 systems both running Win 7 RC 7100-- I noticed initially, that I had inadvertently renamed the minclient=7100 and minserver=7100, when I tried that as an upgrade, I got a stop message that wouldn't allow it to proceed- I went back and renamed them as "...=7000" on each, and it worked perfectly-- so I'm guessing that any number you assign to each is fine, as long as it is a lower/older number than the version that is currently on the system--
