How to Install and Apply Styler Toolbar Skin in Windows XP Explorer?

In this tutorial, I'll tell you how to install a Styler toolbar skin in XP explorer? Many times we download a styler skin but can't find a way to install and use it.

As you all know about my "VistaVG Ultimate" theme for Windows XP which can make Windows XP look-a-like Vista:

Download VistaVG Ultimate Theme for Windows XP

In this theme pack, I have included a styler skin "VistaVG" which adds a toolbar similar to Vista explorer toolbar having back, forward buttons along with addressbar and searchbar in XP explorer.

Many visitors don't find themselves comfortable in installing and applying this styler skin, so I'm posting a detailed tutorial with screenshots which will help you in applying Styler toolbar skins:

1. First of all install "Styler" if you have not installed it yet. You can download it from following link:

Download Styler Free Version

2. Install it and log off.

3. Now open Explorer window and right-click on toolbar. Now enable "Styler Toolbar" option and disable other options like Standard Buttons, Address Bar, Links:

4. Now copy the styler skin folder to following directory:

C:\Program Files\Styler\TB\skins\Styler's

Here C: is the drive where Windows is installed. Change it if your Windows is installed in some other partition.

5. Now click on the "Floppy" icon in Styler toolbar:

6. And select "Skin -> Styler's -> skin_name" (In our case the skin name will be VistaVG).

7. It'll look like as following:

8. If you want to remove Menubar also, then double-click on Styler's icon in System Tray:

9. It'll open Styler Options window. Go to "Toolbar" tab and enable "Hide Menubar" options:

10. That's it. Now you'll get the same Vista Explorer look in your XP Explorer:

^^ Did you check carefully in "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" key? It must be there.

  • WTF..... censoring my previous post is NOT fair!
Why did you delete it? Maybe because you can't handle negative comments?
    Censorship is evil and stupid...

Anyway, so far so good, the Folders explorer bar on the left is fixed, I found the right key in the registry. But I don't want to screw things up again with resource hacker because I have XP Pro Service Pack 3, maybe that was the problem.
Is there another way to get the right dialog boxes and About Windows Box without getting stuck again in resource hacker? Or perhaps you know a download link to patch the dialog boxes? Please let me know, and don't you dare to delete my post again! That's an act of weakness...

^^ Sorry mate but no one deleted your post. I checked and its under "Spam" folder. Thats why its not visible here. Why will I delete anyone's post? I'm here to help everyone as much as I can.

Reg to your query, you'll need Resource hacker to edit these dialog boxes. You should be very careful while editing files in resource hacker cause a small mistake can make your Windows non-bootable.

Whenever you edit a file, take its backup first, so that if you make any mistake, you can safely restore the system file.

  • Hi VG

As always, SUPERB job ant thanks for sharing.

A question though, right at the bottom, just above the status bar you have a panel that display info about a selected object. It is about 1 cm in height.

HOW DO I ENABLE IT? :?:

    Regards

  • VG

^^ Its bottom shellstyle which is included in my "VistaVG Ultimate" theme.

  • Hey man, I think I owe you an apology

But I still have a simple question, but not less important: why is it, that in every msstyle or windowblinds skin the "Start Search" bar (at the left bottom of the start menu next to the patched logoff and shutdown buttons) is always fake??? I never discovered a style where that bar works! Is there a way to make this fake search bar doing something useful? Is it just decoration, or am I wrong and does it really works, but not on my system due to a wrong setting?

Greetings, and once again, my apologies...

    M.

^^ Searchbar facility is not available in XP, thats why we can't make the startmenu searchbar working.

But you can use ViStart which contains working searchbar:

  • can you help me mate. on the toolbar when i right click, styler toolbar is there but it wont let me enable it, it comes up in grey.

  • VG

^^ Did you restart after installing Styler?

  • Hi once again, VG!

Why does QT Breadcrumbs do not work with this Styler Skin?
    Please help.

    Thanks,
    Einstein
