If you are using Windows 7 and missing Windows Vista's DreamScene feature which allows you to set a video as Desktop background, here is something interesting for you.
AskVG reader "Gromas" has created a small tool which can bring back Vista's DreamScene feature to Windows 7. You just need to run this tool and it'll automatically install the DreamScene feature in Windows 7.

This tool is available in 2 languages: English and Portuguese. When you run it, it checks the Windows language in registry. If Portuguese (PT-PT) language is found, it installs the Portuguese version. If it finds any other language, the default English (EN-US) version is installed.

Once installed, you can set your desired video as Desktop background by right-clicking on the video file and selecting "Set as Desktop Background" option.
The tool also comes with an uninstaller, so that you can remove it later.
Thanks again to "Gromas" for creating this tool and sharing exclusively with AskVG readers only...

There are other ways of enabling Dreamscene via hacking away at it.. This probably does all that automatically.. Dreamscene can induce weird performance and potential problems down the road if Microsoft wants to patch something in Windows 7..

What kind of video can this application play?I cannot play .avi, .mp4 file format,,
Gromas
Hi Kris,
This only plays .wmv and .mpg (.mpeg also i think)

Nice... But will this makes Windows 7 Lag? Wish not.
Leonel
Ive been using dreamscene in my windows 7 OS. In another topic, I wonder if VG can make a Mac OSX style visual style for windows 7. :)
Olli
Dear creator of this program,
is it possible to translate this tool in Finnish?
If yes can you please email me
Brian
@ Leonel
i have tried and tried and tried to turn vista into OS X but always was disgusted with the outcome. the GUI just doesnt play well with OS X style. you'll have more luck doing that with XP seeing as how there are so many different tools already available to modify certain aspects of explorer.
as for any system with microsoft's new explorer GUI, i dont see it happening any time soon. besides, if you use vishal's AeroVG theme, windows 7 looks AMAZING! he really did an excellent job on it and it makes the windows actually look like real glass! if you havent tried it out i would suggest you do.
OS X is better enjoyed in it's native environment. enjoy windows 7. its a beautiful OS.

Hi Olli,
Yes, it's possible to make this work with Finnish language. it's possible to make this in any Windows OS Language.

But you can if you want :)

Hi Chad, i'm not very very good at enlish, but i suppose, .when you say "...will this makes my Windows 7 Lag?" you mean if it will become slower, slowing down your windows. Right? :P
If the question is that, well, in some computers it will slow down system, in others will just run fine. All depends of your systems specs....
In my laptop works fine. This is my specs:
Laptop ACER 5737Z
Intel Dual-Core 2.0Ghz
4Gb RAM (i can't remember if it's DDR2 or DDR3 - i'm not writing this post in my laptop)
320Gb hardisk
Geforce 9400 Graphic Card
And today i tested in a 3.0Ghz Intel processor with 1Gb RAM and it slows down the computer, so i've uninstalled.
So, it depends of your system configuration, i mean, your hardware.
Hope i helped :)
PS: Tell me if "lag" it's not what i think :P
Cheers
Chad
