Is there a way for Windows Vista to have Windows 7's "Show Desktop" button located on the right hand side of the taskbar?

I LOVE YOU!!!!!!

The reason the Quick Launch is SO great is because you CANNOT pin ANYTHING you want with the Pinning feature. Yes, you can pin a lot, but try to pin a folder shortcut? Forget it. How about a document or spreadsheet you use often? Forget it. Want to close all the windows and get to your desktop fast - forget it. Yes, they have introduced a lot of keyboard shortcuts such as Win+M will minimize all windows thus getting you to desktop. But 1 Click on an icon is still faster!

Pinning is a cute idea, but for people who want functionality, efficiency and speed - the Quick Launch is still the way to go. There are a lot of features that are great improvements, but there are many formerly 1-Click processes that take 2 or more now. Like I said, I LOVE YOU to whoever put this up! Finally, I can get back to FAST manuevering without opening a window first.

Another tip: skip the icon and just use the Windows keyboard shortcut Windows-D to show the desktop and/or go back to the window you had open!

Here is a fix for reducing the spacing between icons in Win7 taskbar if you are interested. This will allow you to pin more items.

- Right-click taskbar
- hover toolbars
- new toolbar

You can select a folder to include in the folder. Now if you would like to have the look of XP or Vista follow these instructions:

Create your toolbar, if you want to standard items in toolbar for the folder use: %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

After you have completed the toolbar, make sure your taskbar is unlocked. Right click your new toolbar and uncheck Show Title & Text. Next look to the left of your pinned icons and grab the dotted divider and drag to the right past your new quick launch toolbar and drop. Grab the same divider and drag to the left.

You can drag all the way and have the arrows to open the programs in the toolbar or simply leave them on the taskbar.

Lock your toolbar again

Cheers!

This restored my beloved quicklaunch toolbar (thanks!), but there is no "show desktop" icon in it. Now that I have my quicklaunch bar, how do I create a "show desktop" shortcut to put in it?

Folks: the SHOW DESKTOP is an essential and efficient icon to have. I have many shortcuts on my desktop, and it saves a huge amount of time to be about to get back to the desk top in one quick click. using extra key strokes of the WIN+D or moving the cursor over to the bottom right corner just are not efficient options. Thank you so much for sharing this tip!
